DM has been with her H (my SD) for 15 years. Over the past few years his controlling behavior has gotten worse, to the point where she can't deal with it any more. An example of this would be that he has recently said he was not happy with DM traveling to see her Dad abroad next year (trip paid for by her Dad, as she has not seen him for 5 years) because it would mean he would have to find childcare for their 2 children during one day of this 2 week trip. This is added to the fact he took a holiday for himself this year, leaving her with the DCs for 2 weeks.

She wants to leave, but she does not have the finances for it, as she is self employed and on a low wage, so cannot leave immediately. The house is jointly owned by them both. She also cannot ask for help from the family, as all of her side of the family live abroad.

My question to you is what can she do to put leaving into motion with her financial situation as it is?

I'd suggest your DM contacts Woman's Aid. They can help her with practical and financial advice.

She said she would go to a solicitor for advice regarding the house, so will pass women's aid along too and see if she will give that a go.
