divorce or trial separation?

Already filed for divorce and waiting for my hubbie to sign the papers. He now says he wants a trial separation and will move out to a nearby flat . i will put a small amount of money in but he would pay the mortgage and it would be in joint names. I would like a solicitor to draw up a contract but he is not keen as so expensive. The boys and me will stay in the family home.
I think this would be better for the boys as we can just carry on and they can see him at weekends.
Do you think this would work? Or is he just using delaying tactics.

If you've filed for divorce then it's not a 'trial separation' surely? It's a permanent separation. I would be very wary of going into a joint property ownership arrangement with someone from whom you are about to be divorced. Can't he rent until the financial settlement is finalised?
