Just joined Match.com. got chatting to a local bloke. Hes 39. One og the first things he saod was its terrifying being single at this age! Needy or just banter?!
I think I felt a bit annoyed as he has a point! Im 36.

Would not put me off.

Bunbaker · 19/09/2014 06:45

It wouldn't put me off either. I think I would agree with him. At least he is being honest.

summerlovingliz · 19/09/2014 06:48

No I agree.. Just banter and wouldn't put me off. It's prob a good thing as shown he hasn't thought to hard about what to say/not to say

todayisnottheday · 19/09/2014 06:55

Why are you annoyed because you think he has a point? How is what he said needy?

superstarheartbreaker · 19/09/2014 06:58

I'm just reading too much into it.... I'm always looking for excuses or non existent red flags! We are meeting!

Wouldn't put me off, no.

NewEraNewMindset · 19/09/2014 08:37

Lots if things would put me off but not that. What else has he said, has he has long term relationships in his past? A guy who writes that he has never had a proper relationship and instead has a history of short rellies and one night stands would absolutely put me off though.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/09/2014 09:07

It is a jungle out there at any age so I know what he means!

Have a good time

Only1scoop · 19/09/2014 09:11

That on it's own no....

Only1scoop · 19/09/2014 09:11

Stop being so picky....

You sound like me Grin

canweseethebunnies · 19/09/2014 18:49

I guess you're worried it means 'I'll get in a relationship with anyone to avoid being single'.

I don't think it does, necessarily. It might just be honest. At least it means he wants a relationship. Benefit of the doubt, I think.

Diagonally · 19/09/2014 19:01

Sounds like a normal sort of "we''re all in this together" kind of icebreaker thing to say. Wouldn't put me off.

I did however once stop messaging a man who told me that "wheelies are for boys" (as in the bicycle sort).

I can't abide sexism.

VeryStressedMum · 19/09/2014 19:26

No wouldn't put me off, think he's trying to break the ice. Why does it sound needy?

BoldFossil · 19/09/2014 20:03

I'd go on a date anyway, he is looking for somebody not just a shag I guess. that is a good thing on on line dating.

SweetsForMySweet · 19/09/2014 20:06

He is trying to break the ice, not needy imo

alphabook · 19/09/2014 20:12

I would never be put off by one comment on its own (unless it was unambiguously offensive/scary/creepy). I would get rid if multiple red flags started to pop up, but not just one ambiguous comment.

Fairylea · 19/09/2014 20:14

Wouldn't put me off. Just harmless banter really. Trying to be approachable etc.

I had one guy who messaged me saying I would be great... for his dad... who was 80 (I was 29 at the time). And he'd even attached a photo of his dad. Did my confidence the world of good....HmmGrin

I did meet dh online though so it's never good to give up!

(Dh wasn't the dad. Just to be ultra clear).

Bluetonic123 · 19/09/2014 23:18

I think it's a bit of an odd thing to say straight off to be honest. But then again I'm always putting my foot in it so wouldn't necessarily judge

minkah · 19/09/2014 23:24

Does he mean 'because all the women I meet have got kids or want them' ?

peasandlove · 20/09/2014 07:06

it would be scary if you'd been in a relationship for a long time then became single and on match.com at 39. He has a point

Drumdrum60 · 21/09/2014 13:19

He just said something completely normal and OP starts a thread about it ? He's right it must be terrifying .
