As the blurb says, 'whether setting up or splitting up' finances can be a big sticking point. Some good points in the broadcast, especially on the realities of cohabitation and how it's easy to sleepwalk into inequality.

I nearly did that. One particular XDp was adamant that when we lived together, all decisions must be made completely equally. She was just as firm that she'd only contribute 1/4 of the rent and nothing toward household bills.

Thanks for the heads-up, Cogito.

The cohabitation point was that a lot of young couples start relatively equal with similar earnings, no assets and can rub along cohabiting without anything formal being drawn up, no problem. Then (speaking generally/typically) over a 10 - 15 year period when maybe children arrive and a house has been bought, the woman's earnings are likely to drop sharply whilst the man's earnings increase just as sharply. If they are still cohabiting at this point and still nothing has been drawn up, one partner now has zero protection in the event of a split or death.

Worth a listen.
