What do I call these children

My son is seeing a lovely girl who has children.
He also had a child by a previous relationship.

All our family hope this girl is 'the one' as she's all I could want in a daughter in law!
But, how do I introduce her kiddies? I'd love to say grandchildren, but until the relationship is on a more permanent footing, I don't really feel as if I ought to.

They would become step grandchildren if they got married, but I really dislike the word 'step'.

My son would be their father figure so I'd then call them grandchildren, but until then, am I going to have to say they are my son's girlfriends children?

Its rather a mouthful!

Yes, son's girlfriend's children. Or just introduce them by name and not feel like you need to give them a label.

Don't get ahead of yourself, he's only seeing her right now. Their relationship may not become a committed, long-term one.

My son's stepchildren?

Or the "little ones" - My Gran could never remember how many great-grandchildren she had, but remembered they were all boys. "How many 'little boys' are there?" she would ask Grin

Agree don't get ahead of yourself - my mum used to refer to my boyfriend's dad, step mum, mum & other step mum (yes really) as "the in-laws" - it drove me nuts, especially since he dumped me long before any sort of marriage proposal was forthcoming Hmm & she never met any of them Confused

Thank you and I don't want to jump the gun, however we have 4 grandchildren and often have family get together. The eldest has called me nana as he's heard the others doing it. I'm happy for this. Do you think I ought to discourage it?

Son's girlfriend's children or if they are actually with you at the time just by their name. I would feel I was expected to marry my OH and stick around forever if his mother started introducing my DS as her grandchild or even her son's stepson would freak me out a little. I guess it depends on how long they have been together.

But let the children call you whatever they want.
