... You're trying to discuss something sensibly with someone and they react aggressively or by twisting it back at you? I see the phrase used on Relationships all the time but can't think of it now. Like 'stone walling' but not...

It isn't remotely like stonewalling, rather the complete opposite in fact.

My previously lovely OH has started doing this this to me in the past few weeks. It's not always gaslighting, but includes it.

I am not sure of the phrase you are looking for, but for me, the dynamic you describe has ended with me feeling "there is no talking to her/him" (about the given subject).

if people twist something back on me, it alerts me to them having something to hide usually. Some agenda.
