Tinder - talk to me about it, please

I currently do OD on POF which I get on fine with, but would like to spread my net further afield. So I'm thinking I'd like to try Tinder, but:

I'm 50
I use my phone as a phone - don't know how to use it for anything else
I'm looking for friends/relationship, not hook up

Is Tinder a non starter for me?

In my experience it is more for hook ups. I doubt you would find what you are looking for on there. I think it almost makes it too easy for men to 'meet' women and so I don't think they value it.

However someone else may come on here and say they started a meaningful relationship from it so who knows?

Also you will need to download the app onto your phone. Not sure why you can't do that?

Tinder is bollocks OP. Steer clear.

Tisahardlife · 11/08/2014 00:51

I've just spent all evening wasting my time chatting to a guy on Tinder who seemed genuine. He was not, after some investigating it would seem that he is married with children!

I am sick of it! What sites are for single guys looking for someone? POF is that paid for? Is it only on a phone app like Tinder? I need somewhere different to go, Tinder does seam to be for hook ups which is not what I am after.

Just be careful, people are not always what they seem know matter how innocently they come across.

ophiotaurus · 11/08/2014 00:53

My friend who does online dating said tinder is for hookups.

SteveBrucesNose · 11/08/2014 03:59

Sorry to be crude, but I overheard my BIL on Skype the other night bragging that 'Tinder is fucking mint - I'm nailing a different bird every week'

Should give the impression of the type of morons it attracts.

It's a casual sex app.

LizzieBelle · 11/08/2014 07:57

Don't bother. find a decent site, Match.com is popular, so is OK Cupid

Itcantbelove · 11/08/2014 08:03

I didn't know it was a hook up site. My very respectable friend uses it and has met someone.

DeadSirius · 11/08/2014 08:06

It's for sex. Made in response to the casual gay sex app, Grindr.

I know a lot of women - but not men - who use it with the intent of finding a relationship, but no successes.

SinglePringle · 11/08/2014 08:17

I've been on dates through it. I've not had sex through it. Like any OLD, it's whatever you want it to be. I make it clear that I'm not interested in hook ups and - happily - that makes those who are go 'poof' and disappear.

Got a date tonight and one with another guy on Friday.

JaceyBee · 11/08/2014 08:41

It's for whatever you want it to be for, like any other dating site. I uses it for casual hook ups, very successfully if I say so myself Wink

But other people I know have met long term partners on there so it really varies. Just be up front about what you're looking for.

All you do is download the app, it links to fb and takes photos you choose from there so you need a fb profile but it doesn't grass you up on fb for being on it!

heartshapedflux · 11/08/2014 09:22

Why don't you try Match.com OP? 3 years ago I met my fiance on there. Several of my friends have met their long term partners on there too.

A couple of my single friends are on Tinder and they're not short of hookups or men sending them cock pics, but that's as far as it goes.

Personally if I was single and looking for a meaningful relationship I wouldn't waste my time with Tinder.

tilliebob · 11/08/2014 09:31

Two of my mates have met their partners through Tinder and another had had a few dates ie dinner or drinks from it. No casual sex whatsoever, I suppose it is what you make of it. As an old married I like swiping through the photos for them - I was a bit Shock at the number of blokes with wedding rings on it - needless to say, they got binned immediately.
