I'm far too nice.

In my past I have been far too nice. I'm one of those people who can never think of a smart answer back ( until after the event) ! Anyone else ? I know that boundaries are important.
I know this sounds a bit victim-like but when I think about some of the things that have been said and done to me over the years ( including by my mun) it makes me want to cry.
Sometimes it makes me feel like I only have a handful of true friends... And sometimes even they can be unkind. Not sure if I'm paranoid or just a bit too sensitive.

"Do you mean to sound so rude?" (learned from MN) is one I keep in my head for such moments.

There's nothing wrong with being nice, but its different from being bullied or abused -do you appreciate that difference?

I used to be like that. Came from a place of wanting people to like me I think. I've come to realise is that a lot of hurtful stuff is said out of thoughtlessness rather than malice but, either way, I'm no longer so concerned about the good opinion of others. If I'm hacked off, I just tell them. Saves a lot of stress.
