Pheromones and potential partners

Does anyone believe in what they say about pheromones and how they attract us to people?

I'm single and doing some dating and in a few of the guys I've met I can 'smell' them it's not bad like sweat but it's like a warning to me - these men I've never got past a couple of dates with.

Now my ex dh who I was with 13 years had no smell at all, even when he just got home from work!

So I wonder if this is a warning for me in some way?

If you 'smell' the bad dates and your exH (which suggests it didn't end well) had no smell, don't the two rather cancel each other out?

I think the smell and taste of someone is fundamental to having a successful relationship. I once went out with a beautiful looking bloke who I had admired for a while. We went to the Cinema and when he pulled me close and kissed me, he tasted metallic. Yuck ... That was the end of him for me. I love the smell of my DH? Even though everything is washed in Aldi's best he smells gorgeous. He tastes even better. Go with your nose and mouth! Obviously, go with your brain first though. They can smell and taste nice and still be a prize Arse.

I think that smell and taste are crucial as are pheromones. I don't know if humans can actually smell or taste pheromones per se but I do believe they invisibly work their magic and attract us or draw us.

I have a bit of a weird theory - I think that aftershaves and perfumes mask pheromones and can lead us to being attracted to the wrong person when, without the artificial scents, we would actively be put off those individuals.

My ex didn't smell other than his fragrance, but I used to like the taste of his skin...I sound like a right weirdo don't i?!

Cogito I was with him 13 years tho so think his smell must have been ok.

Before that could be true in the case of my ex hubby then. He did wear a lot of aftershave.....

Smell is very important and it's not just a straightforward question of whether you like someone's perfume/aftershave but something more unconscious than that.

I am not too sure of the science behind pheromones but I do think chemistry happens at a very instinctive, almost animal level.

Looks, personality, compatibility etc are all important particularly in the long term but that initial chemistry, or lack of it, exists almost completely independently of this.

I have had that initial chemical "click" with people who were wrong at every conceivable level: unpleasant, ugly, mis-matched, and conversely have met people who ticked every single box but with whom there was no spark.

It's a weird old thing... The older I get the less I understand it.

I think for me it's a warning, my senses telling me someone isn't right for me.
