What do I say to my dad...

My parents have recently separated, and I'm going to see my dad for the first time tonight.
I don't know what to say to him. I have no advice, no solutions and I'm still in shock. My mum has ended the marriage but for very good reason.

I'm panicking. I don't know what to say to him.

Hi Dad
Smile hug
If he wants to talk then maybe you can listen but that is up to you really
Otherwise personally I found it easier to try for some peculiar normality.

Practical help if you want to offer with moving stuff, has he seen / is he going to see A lawyer
Aside from that sorry nothing more I can offer other than hugs it's a tough one to go through

You could let him do the talking and let him know that you don't know where you stand ATM.

You can tell him that he is still your dad and his relationship with your mother should be a separate thing.

Hugs, btw.

Thanks. Your replies make sense. I'm surprised how hard this is as an adult with a good understanding of how relationships work.
I'm very close with both my parents and I'm worried about so many things. Some of them selfish reasons.
