Has anyone tried Agnus Castus for PMT?

I've found my pmt has got much worse recently (just turned 40). I get bad stomach cramps which I've never really suffered with before (I know, lucky me!), really sore boobs for a few days and also terrible irritability/anger which I can't keep under wraps. I end up snapping at the DCs, arguing with dp and wanting to throw it all in and run away.

I know (well hope anyway) that in a few days all will be well again, but for now I'm just fucking low, can't stop crying, feel totally unloved and unsupported. Has anyone tried AC or other herbal/vitamin treatments. Don't want to go down the Prozac route as I had an allergic reaction to it when I tried it previously.

Haven't tried AC, but have discovered starflower oil (and it's so effective, I haven't got round to trying AC yet). Fantastic. Give it a try.

I'm early 40s and the irritability etc has become worse in recent years: I can't stand it. Luckily the starflower oil works wonders, and does so very quickly. I know just how you feel, and I hope you feel better soon.

No but magnesium and b6 complex are helping a bit

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 29/06/2014 19:37

I ordered some B vits too, but hadn't seen anything about starflower oil so thanks for those suggestions.

It didn't work for me, a few years ago, but a colleague absolutely swears by it. So 50/50 here. It's worth a try, you never know.

gubbinsy · 29/06/2014 20:10

I tried it and it worked really well - I had ragey pmt and was being awful to DH and it really seemed to calm it down.

redundantandbitter · 29/06/2014 21:47

Evening primrose , quite a big dose, from H&B. helps me. Heard friends say that Starflower is good too

Sleepwhenidie · 29/06/2014 21:49

Also worth cutting out sugar, makes a big difference to lots of people.

hillyhilly · 29/06/2014 21:50

ac great for me and worked really quickly too

McLoven · 29/06/2014 22:31

Yes I've used it for a month and it's helped me to avoid being ragey. Of course it could be a placebo effect but I don't care - it's made me feel so much better!

St. Johns Wort is used for low feelings and is used in Europe for mild to moderate depression. I use it to get me through peri menopause and menopause. Feels like I have PMT most of the time. lol.

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 30/06/2014 00:46

Oh my gosh, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll be rattling when I walk if I try all of these! I'm presuming I shouldn't mix and match so I'll work my way down the list a period at a time until I find one that works. Thanks

I used it when I was ttc and had pcos and my periods were all over the place and therefore so were my hormones and moods. Did amazing things for my moods and 2 months later I was pregnant with ds after 2 years of trying. Would recommend trying to anyone.

peachdaiquirionmytoes · 30/06/2014 08:31

I tried it and it did help, but I found it gave me hot sweats. The things that have helped me sooooo much are fit B6 complex and Complete EFA - I cannot begin to tell you the difference it has made - life and marriage saving!!!

todayisnottheday · 30/06/2014 08:43

We use it for particularly moody mares (horses, no really Grin) it's excellent stuff, I'd definitely recommend trying it.

Haha Stopprojecting, that's me completely, I used to threaten XH with divorce on a monthly basis. (Fwiw, the final straw that DID prompt the split wasn't PmT related Grin ) and most of my rows with DP seem to coincide with pmt and do get out of hand, usually ending up with me bundling all his stuff into a bin bag and telling him to come and collect it. This time I refrained from that one, although he brought it up instead! I like to rib him that it's his TOTM sometimes, wonder if any of this stuff works on men too?!
