You could try calling the people who are giving you the apartment and explain that it is a very special night, and ask for a free upgrade first of all, you never know if you don't ask ;) (Lie and say you are proposing or something!)
Otherwise you could have a hot bath waiting for him when he gets there, with rose petals, bath bombs, bubbles or champagne.. whatever he likes.
Have an mp3 player set up with speakers with some of your favourite playlists on it (mellow playlist, christmas playlist, getting it ownnnn playlist!)
You could check the hotel or local bar if they could have some chilled bubbly waiting for you, if you would like to go out for a drink before settling in the for night.
Buy some killer undies... obviously ;)
Bit cheesy but some massage oil and extra bath towels so you can grease each other up :)
Get both of you a nice fresh set of overnight essentials, fluffy robes, slippers, favourite toiletries.
Buy some of his favourite drinks or snacks and put them in the fridge.
I might be flamed for this, but buy a chinese lantern so you can both make a wish and set it free into the night :)
In the morning if there is a paper or magazine he likes, you could order a copy.
