"If a mother seeking custody of her children admits she has been the victim of domestic violence, judges in America are more likely to rule against her and give custody to the abusive father or his family."

What Doesn't Kill You

I've come across the above appeal on Kickstarter - it is for funding to complete a film on DV and the shocking system in USA where women are charged with failing to protect their DC from abusive H/P. (I have no connection with the film but thought it might be of interest to MN'ers).

I'm afraid I simply don't believe the premise and I also suspect the motives of the person asking for money to complete the film project.

Another one thinking the premise doesn't really sound likely. Perhaps this is correlation, not causation?

The courts do not do that over here. Keep in mind that DV is grounds for aslyum here, even people coming from a situation of ilegal immigration. The courts rarely seperate the mother and child. Sounds like a scam.
