Odd phone message

I have another thread on here but have just remembered something that happened a while ago and I thought I'd got past now it's in the front of my mind again

Some time ago O2 network was playing up particularly iPhones . I received a photo txt of my BF at work but when I looked it seemed to have been sent from another phone it wasn't his number. I confronted him and he seemed shocked asked me what the number was and said he didn't recognise it and it didn't make sense. We both immediately rang said number and he got through before me then I got a call from a girl whose phone it was saying he had spoke to her and wanted her to reassure me it's a mix up with O2.

He also got O2 to call me as I was suspicious to confirm their lines were playing up. I have randomly rung said number twice since and same girl has answered so I don't think he has another secret phone.

Is this possible for a message to show up as appearing to have come from a random unknown number?

Natasha so he would have had to get both the girl and someone to pretend to be O2 to ring me if this isn't true. It sounded like a call centre as I have rung O2 before myself. Also they were having to speak to lots of people that day because network had gone haywire

It's far more likely that he sent this woman a picture of himself or she took the picture herself and sent it to your number to throw a grenade into your relationship or to warn you about what your partner is like. Then got threatened by your extremely emotionally abusive partner and felt press-ganged into covering for him, either in order to continue the relationship with him or because she was frightened.

orangeandemons · 19/06/2013 21:01

She sent it to you to cause trouble?

Dearjackie · 19/06/2013 21:07

He sent the same pic to my iPad at the same time ( because pics don't show up well on my phone) so he sent it but on my phone it said it was sent from her phone. How she would have got hold of my number I really don't know

I'm not sure what you want us to say.

You sound like you believe him but you obviously don't trust him.

Have you thought maybe he sent both of you the same picture? Why would he send it to your phone and IPad?

Feelslikea1sttimer · 19/06/2013 21:16

When I ring my mum, my number always comes up with another name... And it's a name that is not stored in her phone, it's the weirdest thing! We are both on 3 so not same network but they are both iPhones... Just wanted to let you know that phones do dodgy things and don't just assume the worst xx

CoolStoryBro · 19/06/2013 21:20

Are you both on the same iTunes account? I get texts all the time designed for the rest of the family as every time I update my iPhone, it seems to reset to I receive texts for all family members. It's annoying as I can never sext DH in case the kids accidentally receive them!!

Dearjackie · 19/06/2013 21:20

That's was my immediate thought, that he'd sent us both the same pic, but why did mine have her number as the sent from number?

He sent it to iPad also cos pics don't show up well on my phone
Don't know what I want you to say just seeing if anyone can think of an explanation. I do kind of believe him because I know the O2 thing is true but its still a mystery as to how it happened

Having reread the problem, my iPhone also does the same thing. Says I received a text from someone when it was sent from someone else. And I don't even live in the UK so it's probably more of an iPhone issue as opposed to an O2 issue.

reggiebean · 19/06/2013 21:24

Dear, I understand that this is a difficult situation to be in, but I don't really know where you're going with this. It's not really a mystery. Several of us have mentioned that we've either had the same experience, or heard of it happening to others.

If you're still not satisfied with that answer, then there's more you're not telling.

Dearjackie · 19/06/2013 21:30

Well I don't have an iPhone just an old phone DP has iPhone and I think the girl said hers was iPhone too. Anyway yes I was reassured earlier in the thread until a few people said wake up and see what's before my eyes. More people since have said they have had similar happen so fair enough that's all I wanted to know really. Thanks for replies
