Hubby jealous of my having male friends

is this normal?
He doesn't like me talking to men, he makes snide remarks about "your boyfriend" and is generally a bit horrid. I've been chatting to an old school friend on Facebook, and its been nice to chat again as we were good friends as teenagers. He invited me to play pool and I asked hubby and he said it was ok. I went to meet the friend yesterday, we met a bit later than planned, and I was a bit worried my unpleasant ex might still hang out at the pool hall so we decided to just go for a couple of drinks at a bar instead. I text hubby telling him plans had changed but I'd still be home at the time we agreed. He went mad and was texting me every few minutes accusing me of being on a date, having a boyfriend, etc then refused to speak to me when I went home. I told him he was being a twat and went back out to my slimming world group and when I came home he was acting as if nothing had happened.
I am not happy to stop speaking to or seeing my old friend, I don't see why I should. Am I right?

You are right. He's a controlling arsehole. I'm afraid any partner that tried to dictate who I could or couldn't see, wouldn't remain my partner.
