I will be made redundant in a few weeks time, from my dh's company (i work in the evenings doing his books etc). i am a sahm with two small children at home most of the time and my dh will be moving abroad for work soon too.

I'm looking for information to see what i can claim benefits wise and i would like to speak to someone as my situation isn't the norm.

the direct gov site is not helping at all.

can anyone help?

Look up your local CAB office number online and phone to make an appointment or look up the number of local Jobcentre Plus. Your local council website should also have a list of benefits advice centres they help fund in local trusts.

i called and im not happy i want to stay at home to look after my little ones but as DH is working abroad and not left me, i am only entitled to jsa which means i will have to get stupidly expensive childcare. for any job they find me or i will have to find a job myself when i dont want too, gggrrrr.

How old are your little ones?

DozyDuck · 16/08/2012 12:26

I think if you can work you should, of you want to be a sahm your dh will be supporting you won't he? If you can't afford it then you can't do it Sad such is life.

delilahlilah · 16/08/2012 12:28

It seems a little pointless for him to go abroad to work and leave you with the children if the financial benefit isn't enough to support you all..... Why doesn't he stay and find an alternative solution?

MrsBucketxx · 16/08/2012 12:30

i know im just struggling to see, the difference between me and a single mom who is having her bills paid by her ex (from maintenance), ill be alone for two years with no family near to help.

yet i get penalised and she doesnt. its all totall bollocks.

Because single mums don't get all their bills paid by their ex, they get hardly any money off him at all. It's totally different.

DozyDuck · 16/08/2012 12:40

People on benefits don't get much you know and actually are penalised for maintenance payments.

Trip trap.

8rubberduckies · 16/08/2012 12:55

Your DH will be sending you money from abroad to support his household if you are still a couple, no?

Ok well of it doesn't make financial sense for your DH to go abroad then why is he going and leaving you in the lurch?

MrsBucketxx · 16/08/2012 13:11

its a veeerrry long story. we tried to go with him first and that didnt work, but there is no work here for him so he is going back.

im not slating single parents btw. i hate being in dh's pocket thats all. i have looked at local nurseries and i would have to earn more than i ever have done which i cant see happening. it sucks but ill live.

DozyDuck · 16/08/2012 13:17

If you earn under a certain amount (you and dH combined) you get tax credits to help with child care costs.

expatinscotland · 16/08/2012 13:19

'i hate being in dh's pocket thats all. '

So it's the state's responsibility to do this?
