puds11 Trust me in time you find your knob head radar :)

Unexpected This is a very good idea actually, Iv been thinking of taking up running, where better to start than a running club. The only thing is its a time thing, I only have a certain amount of free time, will have to look into how often they run, and when. I live in a small town, so Im guessing I will have to travel to get there too.

lazarusb thanks for sharing, sounds fab :)

badtasteflump Im definitely with you on this one, its all about positive attitude. Im trying very hard, sometimes its hard to stay positive, after so many knocks. After reading these posts, its lovely to read positive stories.

amillion Theres not many places to socialise where I live, its finding someone to come with me too. Iv actually talked my friend into coming out friday evening with me as my DC are with their dad.

Inadeeptrance Thats good :)Cooks, cleans and is drop dead gorgeous, now I want one of them ;) I know the internet dating can work for some but I just cant do it, its not me. Glad its worked for you though :)
Someone advised me to right a list just a week ago, I feel it will be too long!
The thing is we were just chatting about things, and finding yourself single after so long, you dont have many single friends. I will definitely write a list!

Congrats wannabed yes this is what my friends keep telling me, give it time but I feel if you havnt got the 'spark' on the first date, will you ever?

Lovely stories :) Ok I havnt given up hope just yet. Thankyou ladies :)

There are great men out there. I think its important to have a think about what you want in life - not just in a relationship - but everything and start bringing those new things you want into your life and phasing out the old stuff that isn't 'you' anymore. The closer you are to living the life you want, the more likely you are to find someone compatible with that life. If you know what you enjoy and find fulfilling in life then you will also be more selective about finding someone who enhances it rather than sabotages it.

Things to think about: changes to your career/job, qualifications/classes in something you want to learn, hobbies/sports you've always fancied, spending time with your family and friends, going to places and doing things you enjoy.

Obviously, it'll probably help if you try and take up new things or explore old things in a new way so that you meet new people who share your interests and priorities and develop a wider social circle. i.e. joining the running club rather than just going for a run on your own. You do need to be friendly and speak to new people to meet someone new - but...

Don't get too hung up on the numbers game though - in terms of how many new potential partners you meet. My (fantastic) DH was single for a long time before we met. He went through a phase of going out to the pub or to clubs because that's where he figured lots of single people were hanging out. Not a bad plan, except... he's shy and quiet and doesn't like clubbing and loud nights out, so he put himself in situations where he felt awkward and the people he met weren't really people he had a lot in common with.

He'd never have met me there unless I was also labouring under the impression that I'd find myself someone by forcing mysellf to go out to nightclubs I hated I'm much more likely to be found at club doing a hobby I'm interested in or hanging about on internet forums related to an interest. Which is where we met. We had loads more in common, and are the kind of couple to enjoy an evening in reading, chatting or watching a movie, or a quiet evening out for a meal or socialising with a few friends rather than going out clubbing.

Much better to do stuff you enjoy in smaller social groups accepting that not everyone is single and looking for a relationship, but knowing that when you do meet someone they at least have one shared interest with you. Plus you can get to know each other over time.

You're much more yourself when you are doing something you have a genuine interest in. And therefore more attractive to someone who enjoys the same things you do. Think about the kind of man you're looking for and try to imagine where he's spending his time.

Thanks Spiritedwolf that was a very uplifting read!

Im definitely on my way to living the life I want.
Im a different person to who I was when my ExH left 2 years ago, a better person, a happier person.

Im about to start a course in college in september and also thinking about joining a running club, never run before but hey maybe :)

I do feel like I exclude myself from couple's evenings out, only because I feel a little bit of a tag along.

Im not the clubbing type, I do enjoy nice pubs but Im not too keen on meeting anyone that way.

So now I know there are good men out there somewhere!

I now have to find him! How fab would it be if he found me :)

Thank you, I was afraid my post would make you vom! Grin I had a list in my head of what I wanted after spending 6 years with a shit and dh exceeded my expectations! I never thought I deserved him or to be happy but he spent a lot of time convincing me I was wrong and continues, on a daily basis, to be pretty damn wonderful. I have no idea why he puts up with me though!

GemsAngels · 06/07/2012 09:22
