Actually been out for the day with DD2 and planning pizza and 'House' with both DDs, so am ok.
Only rule for Saturday night threads is that no thread head room be given to thoughts of being losers! ;)

Yup.
And while we could walk away from our abusive Hs, we can't walk away from all of society.

We've rather veered off brownies and social chit chat.

arthriticfingers · 23/06/2012 22:29

No, no. We need more brownies and Wine Wine to keep us going Grin

Victim blaming can be different from victim empowering can't it? Even if sometimes they might look like they are coming from the same place.

To blame someone suggests that they were responsible for the oppressors behaviour (which they are not) but to empower them and give them the tools to survive, thrive and ultimately reach for freedom merely acknowledges the situation they are in and equips them for it.

Trouble is it is a short walk from that to saying that the victim has power in the situation and thus has some responsibility for the oppression.

(sound of slow rusty cogs of brain warming up)

also have some rather nice spicy pop corn...put in some butter and paprika...not sure it worked but it's interesting....try some??? if you are brave (DCs ran a mile)

HotDAMNlifeisgood · 23/06/2012 22:47

spicy popcorn sounds delicious!

Unfortunately, I am topping off my exciting Saturday night by going to bed now. Much love and Wine to the rest of you.

arthriticfingers · 23/06/2012 22:54

I am still here and would love some popcorn.
Yes, saying the victim has power is exactly like saying they are to blame and/or could/should have done something.
Dealing with oppression, though, may be simply about finding possible ways out.
Again if I remember (and it was a very long time ago) in the theatre of the oppressed, no one suggests questioning the reality of the oppression - it is accepted as such because the oppressed experiences it as such. That, in itself, is freedom.
