Would the police come for such a trivial thing?

Ex and I are sharing the same house (thankfully different rooms) after I told him I was going to leave him for his cheating, prostitute using, scumbag ways.
He's been away since Saturday with work, and came back tonight full of anger because I have been ignoring his texts and phonecalls when he was away.
I decided I'd had enough, and told him I knew everything (and had photographic evidence which I wasn't afraid to distribute).

He then grabbed me by the arms and pushed me backwards, then stopped.
I haven't touched him.
I told him I would call the police if he ever touches me again - but tell me, would they take it seriously/help?
(He has now left for his mother's and I've turned the keys in the locks so he won't be able to open them - he's never been violent before).

Actually, I was brave at the time, but I'm stupidly shakey now. :(

I can't change the locks - I'm a tenant.
Sorry, I haven't made myself clear - stress posting - I didn't mean I'd call the police for him pushing me about, but if he came back, and it got worse, woudl they come out.

They would. I've been there. If he's being verbally abusive and physically threatening (even if he doesn't actually hurt you) and you want him out and he refuses...they'll come and remove him. I wouldn't be afraid to call them, even if it's just to put him on their radar if you feel in the slightest bit threatened by him.

Yes call them if only to log the incident. And if he does come back they are aware of the previous incident. I was a call taker with the police And would regularly speak to women in your position. If you are scared then that is what the police are there for.

There is a police non-emergency number 101. You can report this incident and then if you need to call in an emergency, they'll know your circumstances. They'll advise you. Or Women's Aid 0808 2000 247. HTH.

Any tips for keeping him out?

He has keys...I've managed to bolt the back door, but no bolts on the front. :(
Have half-turned the key in the lock...but he does know how to pick locks.
I wish I were out of this.

Yes. Yes and absolutely . Have just come home from work having spent much of the day reporting incidents just like these . It will get treated seriously, that I guarantee you , even if you state you just want a record made.

Please ring 101 . No one will think its a fuss over nothing .

And ask your landlord to change your locks for you.
