I think an open relationship can help you learn to be brutally honest about your emotions, so you really get to know yourself. The problems come in when other people are not being as honest with themselves as you are.

I tried it after my divorce. I learned a lot about myself. I'm not sexually up-tight like I once was. I learned to love and accept myself, flaws and all. Know your weaknesses so you can make up for them with your strengths. I'm now in a very happy exclusive, monogamous relationship.

If it's society you are concerned about? Society is full of hypocrasy yet it will always judge.
