I know it's not Friday, but this has started happening during sex. Is it just me?

Cheeky wee name change here.

I've been with DP for over 2 years, and he is amazing in bed. He makes me feel like nobody ever has before.

Lately, and this is probably going to sound really weird, but I've started to feel everything 'in colour'.

When sex starts, it's all a bit grey and brown, but purple seems to feature heavily for most of the time. Then at the end, everything is an amazing vibrant yellow. The colours enhance the whole experience, but I'm very confused as to why this has only just started, and if anyone else experiences this?

I don't see colours for days of the week like some people do. It's just odd.

Sounds like Synesthesia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia Apart from that, I can't help further, sorry. If it has only just started, might be worth mentioning to your GP?

lovesineffable · 03/03/2012 23:01

it sounds fun and nothing to worry about, as far as I know there is nothing inherently pathological in synaesthesia, it can take many forms, not just the 'tuesday is a blue day' type of thing

eandz · 03/03/2012 23:04

Yes! it's shades of blues and purples for me!!!

solidgoldbrass · 03/03/2012 23:07

Another vote for mentioning it to your GP as it's only just started; most people with synesthesia have had it all their lives, so for it to happen suddenly in adulthood is worth checking out just to make sure there isn't anything dodgy happening within your brain. It's likely to be harmless; most people who have the condition actually quite like it (and I would love to have it myself, I find it fascinating).

ZuzuBailey · 03/03/2012 23:13

lovesineffable - Monday is blue.

weegiemum · 03/03/2012 23:18

I'm afraid ladies that you are wrong!

thursday is blue!

YellowAndMellow · 03/03/2012 23:35

Ok, thanks for your replies. Sounds like it's worth asking the GP then.

Yellow is definitely my favourite colour at the moment Wink

Me too! I would see light, like dappled shades in a sunny room.

Sadly, not since the affair. I think you really have to let go and open yourself up to someone to get this, trust them. (So very :( )

MsWeatherwax · 04/03/2012 11:08

No, Monday (and Tuesday) are blue. Thursday is sort of browny. Ahem, yeah, you're not alone.

pineapple70 · 04/03/2012 12:38

Monday is white, Tuesday green, Wednesday yellow, Thursday purple, Friday orangey brown, Saturday red and Sunday cream.
Sex can be anything from green baubles to multicoloured explosions to a flat grey square.

lovesineffable · 04/03/2012 12:40

it must be great to have that extra synaesthetic dimension to life! :)

worzelswife · 04/03/2012 12:56

Pineapple; wow!

ElusiveCamel · 04/03/2012 13:20

Yes, there was a time when I used to see/feel colours during orgasm but I don't have synesthesia - it was a long time ago and didn't carry on.

MsWeatherwax · 04/03/2012 14:20

Pineapple, I think my Thursdays are your Fridays! And your Saturdays are my Wednesdays.

ZuzuBailey · 04/03/2012 15:52

ElusiveCamel, if you feel colours I think you do have syesthesia...

ZuzuBailey · 04/03/2012 15:52

synesthesia

ThePinkPussycat · 04/03/2012 15:54

Phew! Really thought this was going to be a bum sex thread. MN Fridays are brown Wink

ElusiveCamel · 04/03/2012 16:47

ZuzuBailey I think it was more like seeing colours when my eyes were closed, but was a long time ago, didn't happen for long and hasn't happened since - hence not thinking that I do have it.

YellowAndMellow · 04/03/2012 18:58

A mixture of experiences here.

Eandz is it just during sex that you feel the colours?

before people carry on saying synesthesia, please bare in mind that its merely a left over thing from when we were babies (remember the horizon doc on colors everyone?)

so to a certain extent, we all had synesthesia at some point (although it dissepers as you develop (see this article for all the other awesome things we could do as babieswww.cracked.com/article_18538_5-superpowers-we-all-had-as-babies-according-to-science.html?wa_user1=2&wa_user2=Science&wa_user3=article&wa_user4=recommended)

but for a diagnosis of it at this stage surely it would have to occur more than just when you have sex? (i,e a woman with synesthesia sees colours whenever she hears anything and everything)

also as seen on this thread, alot of people experience colours when they have sex :P its purple for me sometimes
