How long does sex stay rubbish after childbirth?

A few facts: a natural labour, minor tear with no stitches. Breastfeeding. Baby is now four months old. Sex was uncomfortable when we tried it recently. When, please, from your experiences does it get back to normal...? Thanks.

Only IME - tried once 3 weeks in, mainly to prove a point I think = OUCH. Tried again after the statutory six weeks. Slightly weird and I was worried that i would be numb in key areas forever. Tried again maybe 8 weeks in and had best shag ever (can't say we sustained this, but something had definitely changed post-childbirth for me). If it's actively uncomfortable after a couple more goes, I'd get onto the medics. HTH

Er, 18 months and counting. Sorry.

Breastfeeding can make a difference to the hormones that help you to naturally lubricate during sex, and I found that made things uncomfortable. I bought some lubricating jelly and tried to relax as much as possible and that helped.

Erm, for me it took about 5 years. Sorry!

Although that was more due to PND and lack of libido. I'm pretty sure I was physically 'intact' by the time DS was a year old.

After my first, I had slight tear no stitches, but it healed with a bit of a "flap", which was tender still at 4 months. Spoke to doc, who said "one of those things will probly tear again with next one and can stitch then" (what a crap answer!). However, it did heal more, and was fine with no "flap" by about 6 months. Though I then got a Bartholin's cyst which cleared in another month or so.

After 2nd, didn't tear at all, was good to go after 2 weeks and no problems at all after that.
Ditto 3rd.
(Just to show it doesn't mean it will be the same after your next one necessarily)
BF with all of them, btw, never dry, but ymmv.
