Need to rant - can't believe what my Aunt did with christmas pressies

I have not changed my name as I am fairly confident they are not participants in this site!

I make Christmas hampers for friends and relatives each year. I put a lot of effort into to them. I took three around to my Aunt's house about a week before Christmas (early so they could be enjoyed in the run up). One for her and my uncle, one for each of my grown up cousins who I was less likely to see than her. They were in nice decorated boxes, labeled with a homemade tag with their names on and who it was from.

I saw them all today for the first time at my mum's place and my cousin said to me "thanks for the jar of chutney". What?? Turns out, that is all my Aunt passed onto them! Each hamper had a jar of homemade chutney, a jar of homemade mince meat, a jar of homemade pickled pears, two small homemade christmas cakes and some small christmassy candles.

My cousins never saw the boxes in their original neatly arranged state. Never saw what was in them. From what I gather, my Aunt took everything out and sort of piled it together. She ate all the christmas cakes I think (they are small individual ones) and only gave over the chutney.

I pulled one of my cousins aside at one point to make sure she knew what was in the hampers that I actually gave, but I did not get a full conversation with her as my Aunt was around.

I am sooooooo cross!

What a greedy moo your aunt is! unless there's a chance she misunderstood what she was supposed to do with them?

I would deffo make a point of saying directly to her that you know what happened and you aren't happy about it.

That's stealing!

My PIL unwrapped ds's presents for him so they could reuse the paper.

What a joyless bunch some rellies are.

God yes, don't hold back because of her! She sounds a complete loon. Does she normally do stuff like this?

CaRowlers · 26/12/2005 19:01

That's terrible.
You must be hopping mad but unsure what to do.
What did your cousins think?

Reindior · 26/12/2005 19:03

Have to say that I would be tempted to write to them, or ring them, and tell them the whole story. That was just NOT on!

Mistletoo · 26/12/2005 19:05

full of the Christmas spirit then you aunt?

I am very mad about it. I am not sure what my cousins think. When I got one of them aside and told her, she called her mother greedy and seemed quite cross. I did not get a chance to speak to my other cousin and he is off tonight on holiday over seas so am unlikely to speak to him for a while.

In asnwer to does she normally do things like this - well, she is a very selfish person. We never used to exchange presents with them at all, but she has been really nice to my kids and bought them birthday and christmas presents each year, so I started adding her to the hampers list as a sort of thank you.

I am not going to confront her with it. It is more important to me that my cousins knew I had given them full hampers.
