The worse part of Mumsnet?

On Mumsnet you get to share a small part of a person life. Sometimes it is just a small incident in a strangers life sometimes some major crisis.

As often as not you never get to hear the end of the story or enough of the story to really know what to say.

It can take some getting used to. I keep a list of posters who have really struck a cord with me and I sometimes do a search to see if they ever came back to say how it all worked out. 9/10 times they don't, mores the pity.

It reminds me of a threesome I saw walking around the local country park. Two adults and an 7 or 8 year old girl. We walked behind them for quite a while but in the all that time there was no interaction at all between Mum and daughter. The adults? Fine. The man and the girl? Fine. So what was going on there?

Then we saw two couples walking together. The girls (25?) were clearly sisters but they all looked so blissfully happy. I saw them for 2 minutes in all eternity, then never again. It is a strange old world!

I lived in London opposite a family twenty years ago. Mother was a barrister, dad worked in the city. They had two kids, aged about 2 and 4 who looked haunted and miserable. DH and I speculated for months about them, debated calling NSPCC or SS but never did. We used to hear shouting from the mother day and night. We never saw any bruises or violence.

Knowing what I do know I wish I had acted on my suspicions of abuse. I wonder what happened to them.
