my dp caught my aunt kiss me on the lips the other evening ( i actually dont purposefully do this - she aims for the lips and i aim for the cheek but she catches me). but i told him that i have always kissed my mum and my dad and sister on the lips. he said it was disgusting and wrong

what do you think? i have always done this and wont be changing just wondered what your thoughts were

I don't kiss my mother and father at all, now where, nothing, haven't for years. No hugs either. I kiss DH and youngest son on the lips and ds1 is 10 so he would be mortified if I kissed him.

Cyb · 27/12/2010 22:16

Not on lips, no. Cheek, and hug

SantasMadMissy · 27/12/2010 22:16

er no

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 27/12/2010 22:16

No

SlightlySparkly · 27/12/2010 22:16

I kiss my mum, my dad, my DD, my DS, my DH (obviously) and some friends - male and frame - on lips.

A kiss on skin is not the same. It's mot a two way thing the way a kiss on lips is.

SlightlySparkly · 27/12/2010 22:18

'Female' not 'frame' - sorry - predictive text!

sharbie · 27/12/2010 22:20

yuk no

WherecanIhide · 27/12/2010 22:20

It's not disgusting or wrong - unless it turns into a long snog Grin

ElectricSoftParade · 27/12/2010 22:21

I used to kiss my mam, dad and sister on the lips, just did and didn't think anything of it as they were my family (all dead now sadly). Nothing wrong with it but I can understand if other people are a bit off with it.

stripeywoollenhatwithbellson · 27/12/2010 22:23

not really, though it happens sometimes by accident (very poor sense of direction).

HelenaRose · 27/12/2010 22:23

My ex-partner used to kiss his Mum on the lips; I found it creepy and off-putting.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 27/12/2010 22:24

ewwwwwwwwwww.

CheerfulV · 27/12/2010 22:26

No. I haven't kissed or been kissed by my mum since I was little. I would find it a bit creepy and offputting in others.

bessie26 · 27/12/2010 22:27

No. The only person I kiss on the lips is DH.

DD sometimes kisses me on the lips, but as she is only 2 I will forgive her Grin DH's cousin always aims for my lips, (which i find REALLY wierd) but he only caught me out the first time!

My family aren't really the kissing sort, and alot of them suffer from cold sores and were determined I wouldn't catch them, so kissing only happens on special occasions, and always on the cheek.

HSMM · 27/12/2010 22:39

I only kiss DH on the lips. Not my Mum, Dad or DD. I used to have an Uncle who kissed everyone on the lips and I hated it.

violethill · 27/12/2010 22:39

Er.. no

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 27/12/2010 22:41

Only kiss DH on the lips. Cheeks for everyone else.

Thingumy · 27/12/2010 22:41

I don't think a peck on the lips is disgusting.

I don't kiss my family in this way but I wouldn't find it offensive if other's did.A peck is a peck.

I guess it depends on what you are comfortable with OP.

I embrace certain family members with a hug and a kiss on the cheek and we say that we love each other when we depart company.I am comfortable with this and I don't care what others would say.

dearprudenceandtheivy · 27/12/2010 22:49

I have an auntie in her 80s who kisses people on the lips. I've always assumed it was what was considered normal as she grew up, and go with it.

I kiss DS (8) on the lips, as does my DH. But the rest of my family (sisters, mum, dad, etc) kiss on the cheek.

I don't think kissing on the lips is weird or creepy.

SheWillBeLoved · 27/12/2010 22:50

Erm, no. I'm a pretty tactile person but wouldn't dream of kissing family on the lips. Just too personal for my liking. A hug and kiss on the cheeks I do, but not every time.

hideyhideynamechange · 27/12/2010 22:51

Never, I would hate it. But in lots of families it's normal AFAIK.

singingcat · 27/12/2010 22:54

I only kiss DH on the lips. I think it's a bit too intimate for anyone else

Scorpette · 27/12/2010 23:12

Me and my family all kiss each other on the lips hello and goodbye. We love each other, why wouldn't we? We also tell each other that we love each other and are generally v emotionally open. It's people who think it's 'creepy' and so on who have the problem, not us. Whatever is going on in their minds that makes them find it sinister is certainly not going through ours...

NW20 · 27/12/2010 23:17

I wouldn't want to kiss anyone on the lips except DH or my baby.
I do find it a little too intimate and weird tbh.

violethill · 27/12/2010 23:38

I think the reason some people find it weird, is that anything more than a peck on the lips is pretty intimate. While to give someone a long lingering hug, and telling them you love them, is far more meaningful. I quite naturally do the latter with family and close friends, whereas a quick peck on the lips would seem odd and less 'close'. And as I say, a lingering kiss on the lips would seem very odd
