and do you still use protection?

OP posts:

Personally I don't, just because I don't really like the mess! Also I can't relax and enjoy because I'm self conscious about it smelling weird.

Some of my friends get raging horny on their periods though and can't get enough. I think it's really all down to personal preference.

If you do it's always wise to use protection tho.

thread on aibu

expatinscotland · 06/12/2010 15:47

No. I find it painful and I'm de-sensitised down there and can't orgasm. DH finds it not as stimulating.

ChasingSquirrels · 06/12/2010 15:50

yes, and no

Banks · 06/12/2010 15:51

Yes I do if my partner is ok with it and yes we do use protection.

craftynclothy · 06/12/2010 15:51

I do. I now have a coil so have protection all the time but we did use condoms before I had the coil.

chrysanthemum38 · 06/12/2010 15:56

Only at the very tail end when there is hardly anything there. And I have a coil too so constant protection.

I do get horny though.

nickeldonkeyonadustyroad · 06/12/2010 15:58

i don't, because it's icky and gross.

even with protection.

(not judging if you think it's not icky, I just worry abotu blood going everywhere)

and I would use protection if i did do it and we weren't ttc.

maypole1 · 06/12/2010 16:19

me too the blood clots and the smell ewwww also even if their wasnt all that, i get bad cramps and my tummy get all bloted hardly sexy

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 06/12/2010 17:32

I do if I feel like it, but I find it helps if sex is more gentle as my cervix tends to be more sensitive, and often it's lower than usual as well (so no positions which mean he goes too deep)

Don't really worry about mess, I just lie on a towel. You get mess with sex normally anyway, you just can't see it as much! I use a mooncup so that helps for foreplay etc as it appears basically normal down there (though I still haven't quite got the hang of discreet removal at the crucial moment!)

Yes we still use protection. There's a small chance you could still get pregnant and I don't want to take that risk at the moment.

DivineInspiration · 06/12/2010 17:49

Yes, I'm often more aroused when I have my period. Though usually avoid sex on my heaviest day purely because my heaviest day is very heavy and makes such a mess - although if I'm really in the mood, I can get over it. DP not bothered by periods at all.

I have pretty easygoing periods, though - don't get cramps or bloating or moodswings or pain - can totally see why sex would be off the cards if cramps and bloating made me feel unsexy.

Have a coil, so always protected anyway.

robberbutton · 06/12/2010 18:49

Yes, not in v heavy first 2/3 days but at the end. Just lie on a towel. We do use protection- I use a diagphram which helps make it not so messy.

ChateauDeLaShite · 06/12/2010 20:52

Yes if I feel like it but probably not on heaviest day. Have coil so am always protected

freerangeeggs · 06/12/2010 20:55

Yes I do :)

My boyfriend was squeamish at first but that wore off pretty quickly!

Sex in general is a bit icky anyway

CrawlingInMySkin · 06/12/2010 21:09

Yes but not on my heaviest 2-3 days would if I really wanted to though we also use a towel and I ovulate a day or two after my period ends (long periods short cycle) so if we want TTC we have to, if we don'y we definetly use protection.

PressureDrop · 06/12/2010 21:09

Yeh, but only on lighter days and using johnnies.

ModreB · 06/12/2010 21:45

Not full sex, but I will often give him a bj or hj, then he sees to me manually IYSWIM.

My choice TBH, he wouldn't mind a bit but I find that even though I get horny, I don't want full sex.

happiestblonde · 06/12/2010 22:33

It would take a lot more than a bit of blood to keep me off DP, he's a gorgeous creature and I couldn't handle 3/4 days off sex.

SurreyAmazon · 06/12/2010 23:49

I have done it and its very pleasant for both parties. Oral sex during menses is out of the question; I know plenty of men who enjoy earning their 'red wings' but health and hygiene concerns aside, I am strongly against it.

robberbutton · 07/12/2010 07:18

Ooooh no, definitely not oral! Shock

thebrownstuff · 07/12/2010 07:26

redwings Shock bleuch

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 07/12/2010 18:37

I had an ex who liked giving oral while I was on my period - it doesn't really bother me tbh. Most men don't like it though and I can quite understand that. Although a mooncup helps keep things a bit more "normal" down there which can help :)

I find it weird and a bit sad how many people think it's "icky" or disgusting or worry about the smell - it's not a bad smell, just different to the usual one.

LaurieFairyonthetreeEatsCake · 07/12/2010 18:39

No. Don't get horny and would never orgasm so no point.

SummerRain · 07/12/2010 18:48

We do, although less so recently as i find the clean up annoying as i'm so knackered constantly... much prefer to just go straight to sleep after sex Blush

DP has never been a bit bothered, he'd probably do oral too.... I have to remind him every time not to, an ex did it once and it was not a turn on for me tbh... although he seemed to get off on it Hmm

TBH, i've never had a partner who was a damn bit bothered by the blood.

Ormirian · 07/12/2010 18:49

Yes. OR we did when I had periods.
