I am wondering if I should move to R4 as I am getting less interested in the sleb twaddle and music on other stations. So if R4 any good? Is women's hour any good? Am I getting old ?

moffat, that's exactly it - the serendipity of the programming. I used to do a lot of driving for work and that was when I got hooked - you'd start off with the Today programme, and then get caught up with a bunch of enthusiastic geeks experts discussing the Medicis or Einstein's theory of relativity or something, then get hit with Woman's Hour and the weekly serial and then something a bit more quirky and random and then... I used to make sure I could be in the car between 2pm and 3pm so I could listen to The Archers and get the afternoon play

The thing that continues to confuse me is why they still make radios with big tuning dials on the front. Surely you buy the radio, tune it to Radio4, and then never touch the tuning dial again until the radio finally expires? You might as well hide the tuning dial on the back - it's not like you'll ever use it more than once...

It's not a radio station, it's a lifestyle choice. Has got me through everything from endless breastfeeding to moving house. I also seems to have knowledge of a wide range of bizarre topics almost through osmosis.

Quentin Cooper's science prog on thurs is a bit rubbish tho.

can't stand laurie taylor either, thinking allowed always makes me swtich off. i have a love-hate relationship with open country - it usually has me reaching for the off switch, but sometimes i don't get there fast enough and get inexplicably drawn in

open country is the walking one it was on yesterday.

i was given a digi radio that i use occasionally for radio7 (mostly r4 drama/comedy repeats) but i usually just carry around a portable when i'm in there.

Can't listen to any other radio station but I have to either turn it off or leave the room when "Thought for the Day" comes on!

DH great R4 fan. We even considered giving DS Humphrey as a middle name.

I breastfeed DS to the Today programme in the morning.

That is weird though as I went to college with Evan Davies, so it is very strange waking up to his voice,
