Does anyone like PopMaster with Ken Bruce?

I am oddly addicted to it. I'm plucking up the courage to try and get on. But if I got a bunch of questions with a 60s/70s bias I could be spectacularly rubbish.

For part of the week I'm one of those "working at home" people he makes fun of - you know, the ones who measure their days by PopMaster, their second cup of coffee and de-fluffing the drier.

Even when I am working out of the house I still need to listen to it on iPlayer.

Oh I like it too.

what irritates me is those contestants who when asked what they normally score remark "oh about 30 ken" and then crash and burn live on air

Its the Bonus Questions that make it or break it for most. You need to get luck there unless you have an extensive knowledge of the Nolans chart positions.

I like Stuart Maconie - can't bear Chris Evans but would always listen when Maconie was sitting in. Has anyone read his book on the North?

The bonus questions do make or break it. 18 out 0f 39 points and 6 of them could be about a seventies hit which was a hit again in the 90s and "was this in 92, 94 or 96?" Not a hope unless you know!

One thing I will NOT do if I go on is "just say a few hellos" and finish with "anyone else who knows me." That's so annoying!

I adore it but think the 3 in 10 often marks the true music buffs out from the quite good. I rarely manage it.

I must remember to tune out afterwards though because when I nip back to the kitchen to make lunch and turn on the dulcet tones of Jeremy Vine, I want to smash the stereo into tiny pieces.

Somebody bought dh Stuart Maconie's Cider With Roadies book for Christmas. He hasn't read it yet. I find him oddly irritating.

I love pop master. But I'm no good at it.

The question-setter seems to have an odd obsession with the post-2000 questions being about Westlife and S Club.

don't really like KB but do listen to popmaster. I think some of the questions are ridiculous as is the prize.

I enjoy spotting when they get things wrong. Such as the other day claiming that "Susudio" was by Genesis and not long ago playing the wrong Stone Roses track which had nothing to do with the question. There have been a few other instances as well.

Love it but find it very hit and miss with the difficulty levels.

I don't normally listen to radio 2, except when on long car journeys and even then, that is usually Saturday morning and Jonathan Ross. I always associate Jeremy Vine with being on holiday. Dh and I join in the debates. It is fun.

I like Jezza Vine except when he has that Joanna Bogle bint on.

Oh sorry, all of the below was a bit irrelevant, wasn't it? Meant to say, whenever I hear Popmaster, I am lucky if I can answer one question! How do people outside the music industry have such extensive knowledge of pop music?

It's not Jeremy Vine, it's Disgruntled from Bridgnorth that I don't like. You can count in seconds how long it takes for somebody to phone in and intone 'I pay my taxes'. Somebody always suggests bringing back hanging and it's often the fault of immigrants/single mothers and/or Youths. It's like the Daily Mail has leapt into being and started broadcasting into my kitchen.

Dumbledoresgirl - I think it's to do with the type of memory you have.

I've been told I have an eidetic memory - I'm very good at associating figures with pictures or names, so I can remember, for example, what the chart position of lots of records was and what year they came out. I can also remember which days our blue recycling bin has to go out, and good with names and faces.

On the other hand I am rubbish at remembering where I left things or what someone said to me the other day.

I'll be useless at 2000s quizzes in the future though - it's all one big blur. While 1983 and 1988 are quite distinct times, totally different musically and fashion-wise, 2003 and 2008 just seem the same as each other. I struggle to distinguish one Britney Spears or Craig David song from another.

show - I listen to JV quite a lot and have never heard anyone say such things are you sure you're tuned in right?

Sometimes I can't actually believe I spend so much of the day listening to Radio 2 without actually morphing into my mother, but I do (and have you tried listening to Radio 1 recently?).

I love Ken and Popmaster. Dd even knows not to chatter when "the questions" are on. BobbieW - you HAVE to do it - we'll all cheer you on.

And I don't know about you lot, but I feel like I've been listening to Steve Wright being a twat in the afternoon all my bloody life.

I always think the Jeremy Vine show is much better when Jeremy Vine isn't doing it, the stand ins are usually much better. Agree with poster about the Daily Mail attitude of some of the participants. Still enjoy it though and they are OBSESSED with old people being dangerous on those motor carriage things that they drive on the pavement, I swear they have a thing about it on every few weeks. I always think if you want to get an idea of what the Great British Public think about things, you'd do far better to listen to Jeremy Vine than Radio 4 (depressing though it is...)and he plays nice music. Sorry just realised this thread is actually about Ken Bruce and popmaster...sorry!
