That's very sad.
I really admired him.

So did I. I felt I was in safe hands when he was presenting Today or The World at One.

I really liked him and was cross when they got rid of him from Today. Such a marvellous voice and a very good writer too - his book Diary of a Dogwalker about his springer is absolutely lovely.

A big loss - he was one of my favourites

Very sad. He came across as a lovely man. Interested in what he was discussing. He definitely had a friendly, warm manner that made him feel like someone I knew.

Another prostate cancer death at 68 just like Dermot Murnaghan. Sad news.

He always made it sound like everything was fine, he was in control, nothing was going to go wrong. Very sad, and was too young.

I worked with him at the BBC. Always liked him, none of the "ego" or diva behaviour some other presenters had. When they got rid of him - with the press running stories saying "he sounded too posh" - I emailed him to say how sorry I was, and I (as a working class Scouser) couldn't care less about his alleged poshness, to me he was calm & intelligent. He found out he was getting the push from a colleague, ffs. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sad news. He was a great broadcaster and author.

I was sad to read the news this morning. It was known that he was ill, but that’s far, far too young to die.

I absolutely loved him on ‘Sunday’ - he brought such gravitas to the coverage of topics there.

Absolutely ridiculous to purge him from ‘Today’ - I don’t want R4 to be audio-TikTok.

I’ll remember him with fondness - and hope current and future presenters look to his example.

I'm a huge R4 fan. Such a sad loss. A brilliant journalist overseas but he explained the Northern Ireland situation better than anyone else. I live somewhere close by and I grew up with it. I've only just found out he was a devout Catholic reading his obituary. Just makes his impartial reporting even more remarkable.

I’m sorry to see this. Gone too soon. He was a memorable and talented journalist. Nice to know that he was a nice person behind the scenes too. Sympathy to his friends and family.

I was very sorry to hear this too. I thought he was an excellent journalist and presenter of the various programmes he was involved with.

Sad news, he was decent man with integrity and intelligence sadly lacking in the BBC now. His books are excellent

Did anyone else listen to Sunday this morning on Radio 4? Much of the programme was given over as a tribute to Ed Stourton. Very bitter-sweet. They didn't have enough time to do justice to all of the people who wanted to appear and talk about what a fine person he was.

I did, but I was barely awake so will try to listen again.

@nauticant , not listened to it yet. I liked Ed Stourton on Sunday. He brought an intellectual heft to the programme and was a pleasure to listen.

I didn't hear it all but what i did hear was really moving and actually realy informative anout how he touched the llives of so many people.

I'll listen to the broadcast, and thank you, @TheMarriageOfAirAndFrock I instantly recalled his name, but it didn't come to life as it were until I said it out loud, as they do on radio broadcasts. Then it all came back.
