Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you wishthat we'd heard the Reverend Shula preach over the festive period, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I am all Archered out after the excitement Hmm of the 75th anniversary yesterday, the special drama (Truth and Lies), the podcast, you name it. Now it looks as if George is going to pull through, the hype seems a bit overdone. So it's over to you!

My theory - bottle will be the free wine (the one where they helpfully listed every person who had one a few episides ago). George will have left a phone message for Emma which will not reveal the identity of his attacker but this will drag out for several episodes.

George will have a personality change due to his head injury and become kind. When we all like him again, he'll have an aneurysm and die.

Good theory. I like it.

I found myself thinking perhaps Harrison dunnit, because a) they have to get rid of him somehow and b) he’s become very irritating. But it would be a bit similar to the Kirsty/Philip marriage breakdown, and I quite like Fallon.

I simply don’t believe that either Ed or Jazzer would do it, so if the scriptwriters say they did, I shall be very annoyed!

A quarter of a century ago when the internet was a great novelty and the BBC was setting up messageboards for every conceivable subject, they set one up for Current Storylines for The Archers. I suspect they thought the devoted listeners would set to work talking about their favourite characters and storylines. What they actually got was relentless criticism and nitpicking, punctuated by people comparing notes about which characters they hated most. Xmas Grin

Ah, I remember those days of the BBC doing all manner of random things with this New Fangled World Wide Web. I bloody loved Celebdaq!

ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure · 03/01/2026 20:05

I think it might cause the break up of Fallon and Harrison as they each believe the other to be guilty and that will be too corrosive to overcome. So this may have implications beyond who actually dunnit.

Also George will consider any change in people’s position (like not being barred) as confirmation that they were wrong and he was right all along. This will not end well for Amber who will either not say anything or will not be heard as everyone will remember what happened when they accused George.

Ed may well have done it, because he was willing to put up with George for Emma when he was on the receiving end but not when Keira was involved.

Whoever it is will be charged, bailed and leave and no more will be said, like Rochelle and the abattoir.

Or something

In The early 90’s I went on a date and he was very keen on TA, he had even ‘been’ to Ambridge on some day out thing. I was quite excited to talk about the programme because I didn’t know many people who listened. He proceeded to talk for about 2 hours about how awful it was and how much he hated everyone. Peggy Woolley got some real vitriol (which may have been deserved) but I never saw him again 😁

Gonners · 03/01/2026 20:20

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/01/2026 19:12

Yes indeed. I wasted enormous amounts of time there, and I know others here were also regular posters.

I lurked there a lot and posted from time to time. The highlight of my internet career was copious praise there for a parody McGonagall poem - sadly lost to posterity.

I feel like there's been a lot made in recent weeks of sibling squabbles between George and Keira. Not sure if this was a foreshadowing or a red herring though!

Manufactured to enable the latest plot twist, i.e. get everyone out looking for Keira and so find George. Entirely out of order to have a conflict between characters that isn't live, but then the SWs don't care about that.

echt · 03/01/2026 20:52

I should add that the nature of this conflict will have to come out at some point, The vague references, but nothing described leaves it nicely open for later development of bullying and/or sexual abuse by George.

It's amazing how Keira has been dropped by her parents in the rush to see George, with no attention paid as to why she ran away. Or have I missed something in the mini-eps?

Mischance · 03/01/2026 21:06

Clearly George is going to accuse Brad to get his rival off his back.

ExitPursuedByABare · 03/01/2026 21:13

For whoever asked earlier, Harrison is still in Corrie (despite someone on here saying he’d been killed 🙄) but I can’t see him lasting much longer so that would fit with his recent return to Ambridge. Sorry!

Yes, I think he must have gone to Inkberrow. As I say it was early 90s and I may have got that wrong but I vividly remember he brought some fake drinks mats ‘from The Bull’

Thanks, it was me that asked. Maybe he won’t survive the cross over into Emmerdale.😀

Maybe something to do with Archers Addicts, which Kathy Perks/Hedli Niklaus used to run. I believe they organised cruises with members of the cast paid to come along. It folded eventually. I miss their calendar, which my Mum bought for me every year.

My Archers Addict mug I'd currently in the fridge with leftover gravy.

I was on ML, but mostly in the Bull.

This, combined with @ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure’s post makes me wonder if Emma’s phone being out of action is a plot device to not reveal yet that Ed had spoke to Kiera on the phone and found out why she’d run away and it was to do with George. In his fury he’s rung Emma and left a message letting her know the truth…

BeatriceBatchelor · 03/01/2026 22:04

Thanks for new thread Gasp

I just don't care who walloped George yet here I am like a hopeless addict.

JanFebAndOnwards · 03/01/2026 22:47

LA to Friday’s and noticed two things Eddie said:
when Amber didn’t immediately answer Emma’s question as to where she was when she heard about George, he seems to rush to fill in with “You were at X’s weren’t you love?” Like they were in on something together.

Also he said to Soosan “We shouldn’t have had to end up here”
had to??

JanFebAndOnwards · 03/01/2026 22:50

Also george must surely take a turn for the worse tmrw - bc he was about to reply to his mum’s “Tell us sweet’art, who did this to you?!”

And we know most of the cast don’t currently know.

JanFebAndOnwards · 03/01/2026 22:58

Where has the Beeb been hiding all this delicious footage for decades?! (Actors from early seventies shown)

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/01/2026 01:44

Well, when the real police start investigating, they will surely listen to the 999 call recordings. Should be easy enough to identify the mystery one, unless it's one of the interchangeable Men Who Always Sound Tired.

echt · 04/01/2026 02:56

Apologies if this has been raised before, but maybe George was hit in error, the bottle intended for someone else.

muddyford · 04/01/2026 05:39

I think the police would have been around for George's sickeningly rapid regaining of consciousness, to record every golden word as evidence.

ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure · 04/01/2026 07:47

I assumed that George will say he couldn’t see or can’t remember. Unless he says who it was and the person has an alibi but does anyone except Clarrie have an alibi?

Preparing myself mentally for a huge anti climax while TA play the long game.

This sounds right, I seem to recall that he had met Trevor Harrison.

i only hope he didn’t give him the same monologue 😀
