Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you wishthat we'd heard the Reverend Shula preach over the festive period, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I am all Archered out after the excitement Hmm of the 75th anniversary yesterday, the special drama (Truth and Lies), the podcast, you name it. Now it looks as if George is going to pull through, the hype seems a bit overdone. So it's over to you!

Oh Amber. Have a termination dear girl, otherwise history will repeat itself.

EBearhug · 18/01/2026 19:16

Is no one on radio or TV capable of using contraception?

snowibunni · 18/01/2026 19:17

Harrison is such a jobsworth . Who is going to find out what Fallon has done unless it's him that says anything? At least it's cleared up one thread though

You would think not.

The inevitable conclusion we have to come to is that all young women in radio or television programmes are too stupid to get themselves to a doctor or clinic.

Amber has been having regular sex, or at least we have been being told about it frequently. She has no business not using contraception dammit. and if she's been relying on condoms alone, she is clean daft.

MorningCoffeePlease · 18/01/2026 19:34

Phew. And I thought nothing much happened in Sunday episodes!

muddyford · 18/01/2026 19:35

Hoping tonight spelled the end of Fallon/Harrison. She thought he'd done it and he thought she knew who'd done it, not knowing she thought it was him.

Can't see how wiping your own CCTV would in any way be considered criminal. He's a really nasty piece of work and his harping on and on reminded me of the incessant droning about the non-baby.

Did Amber and Brad DTD or just a kiss? Bet George doesn't know they spent the night together in Brad's bedroom. Amber is behaving like a total idiot.

JanFebAndOnwards · 18/01/2026 19:42

I don’t find Harrison nasty at all.

I would think what she did was criminal - she did I with intent to hide evidence?

BoreOfWhabylon · 18/01/2026 19:51

I don't share the dislike of Harrison at all.

And I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. Brad actor in particular was very good, I thought.

Eastie77Returns · 18/01/2026 19:52

Amber and Brad only kissed. I think (hope) she will hide her pregnancy from George and have a termination. Surely there is no way she will want a baby at 19 and to be saddled to him for the rest of her life.

So Fallon knows about the woman up North? Or is this a different woman from the one that was revealed in the police interviews (which were fictional but based on reality..? Still confused about them tbh). The woman mentioned tonight was a colleague who is pursuing Harrison and the one mentioned in the police interview was not a police officer but a woman with children who he helped out and grew close to.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/01/2026 20:00

I think it's a deliberate case of repeating history (Emma, Will, Ed triangle) as hinted at when Emma had her heart to heart with Amber before she went to Ireland. .

Edited

Exactly. Surely she can't actually want a baby. 19, engaged to someone she doesn't love, loves another man, fiance has no job or money, nowhere of their own to live, terrible circumstances to bring a child into the world.

Yet here she is ,"accidentally" pregnant. If she wanted to make sure she could easily have gone on the pill, or had an implant.

She surely has to have an abortion, and before she tells George and his family. I can just imagine clarrie and Susan putting so much pressure on her to keep it and produce their great grandchild. I bet they're the type of women who tell unexpectedly pregnant women that everything will work out fine, no one ever regrets a child etc etc, when in reality that simply isn't true.

I fear though the SW will have her condemned to a life tied to George and the awful Grundys.

Exactly like Emma. Except her fiancé did have a decent job.

I am definitely with you in hoping that this is the end for Fallon and Harrison's marriage. There is no trust there, and that's often the death-knell of a relationship.

I don't think the CCTV in Fallon's place of work is "her own": isn't it the property of her employers? In any case what she did was destroying evidence the police asked for, and I think that would be a criminal offence even if the evidence did belong to you.

We were told that Amber slept in Chelsea's room when she took refuge with the Horrobin household because of her revulsion over the way George spoke to his parents. I think that Tracy and Jazzer would have been less than laid-back about anything else.

Perhaps the scriptwriters have been reading MN.
There seems to be a massive amount of contraceptive failure here. Nobody seems to get unwantedly pregnant because they took a chance or didn't bother; it's always having a stomach upset while on the pill and the morning after pill not working, or condoms permanently breaking like gossamer (instead of just feeling like it like it says on the packet).

Pretty sure they both said it was just a kiss.

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 20:28

Oh gawd 🤦‍♀️ I haven't listened yet but oh dear, this was predictable. As soon as there were inklings of there being feelings between Brad and Amber, it was always going to be a history repeating itself pathway, with an unplanned pregnancy thrown in for good measure.

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 20:31

Amber certainly sounded extremely guilty after George's accident attack. Hope Brad's ready to be a father!

EricTheHalfASleeve · 18/01/2026 20:36

Amber also had time away in Ireland - for her sake I hope the dad is a nice Irish resident or she has a termination. Being shackled to co-parenting with George for 18+ years is an awful thought.

Eastie77Returns · 18/01/2026 20:38

I doubt Clarrie would pressure her into having the baby. She's endured a life of drudgery with a man who's never had 2 pennies to rub together and I think she'd tell Amber to think very carefully before proceeding.

Susan on the other hand will probably be delighted and convinced that fatherhood will be the making of George or some such nonsense🙄

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 20:54

Oh ok, so I've just caught up with the episode. So it's not a Brad baby.
This time...

Gonners · 18/01/2026 21:15

Amber needs to talk to Chelsea, who will tell her in no uncertain terms to Just Get On With It! She has dealt with the consequences of dithering.

AndAllOurYesterdays · 18/01/2026 21:24

I don't think they will do another termination storyline so soon after the Chelsea one.

slughater · 18/01/2026 21:31

Amber's not stupid though
She can have a very simple quick termination without anyone knowing (apart from Brad now of course)
But it was a bit worrying how she said 'this changes everything'

Gonners · 18/01/2026 21:33

I think they could and perhaps should - the Chelsea termination was traumatic and unpleasant (because of the faffing around and indecision) and needs some sort of calmer, less dramatic counterpart.

TheUsualChaos · 18/01/2026 21:34

Yes the fact she said this changes everything made me think this is so not going to be another termination storyline. I've said it before and I'll say it again, she loves the drama.
