Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you wishthat we'd heard the Reverend Shula preach over the festive period, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I am all Archered out after the excitement Hmm of the 75th anniversary yesterday, the special drama (Truth and Lies), the podcast, you name it. Now it looks as if George is going to pull through, the hype seems a bit overdone. So it's over to you!

Wow @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime ! All those celebrations have clearly gone right over my head!

TheUsualChaos · 09/01/2026 19:20

Pah! Don't believe a word of it George!

Wow @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime ! All those celebrations have clearly gone right over my head!

They were just another "fleece the pun'ers" thing at The Bull, I suppose; not all that memorable.

Mulledjuice · 09/01/2026 19:00

Except on these threads, daily

Like my mother, I thank the Lord, daily, that I don't have to live in Ambridge.

Nobody in that village is bright enough to notice that Joy has an expensive house and no visible means of support, so they never ask how come.

muddyford · 09/01/2026 19:22

So William wished his father would choke on his mother's shepherd's pie. No wonder George feels saying such things is acceptable. The apple hasn't fallen far from the tree. Poor Clarrie.

TheUsualChaos · 09/01/2026 19:22

Yes true, and now Joy wants to make every event on the calendar into a full village participation event. Where does she think people find the time, or the money?

JanglyBeads · 09/01/2026 19:24

How I wish I could believe George, that it was all over!

Poppins2016 · 09/01/2026 19:28

"It's over" uttered last thing on a Friday night... always ominous!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/01/2026 19:47

Maybe it will turn out to mean it is over for George.

Trouble is (and I think now the week is over it is no longer a spoiler so I can mention it on this thread) George has not been in the cast lists this week or last, and he has definitely been in the cast. So the cast-lists are now as unreliable as a fictitious set of interviews with a non-existent inspector, or a fictitious back-story for Neil, or a fictitious tale about someone with no motive for doing so and who would never leave someone perhaps dying by the road having been guilty of a hit-and-run.

This makes the programme less interesting, for me. Part of the enjoyment comes in trying to guess what may be coming, and you cannot really do that if the editorial team decide to cheat. I lose interest; I no longer care who bottled George, just feel vaguely irritated that they didn't do a proper job of it.

Gonners · 09/01/2026 20:39

I was mildly interested, but the claim that it was one of Markie's lot is absurd. Ah! But the "nice wheels" = stolen car, people will say! That would be the car that went past at speed, not even slowing down for the purpose of bashing George on the head? Did they just happen to be passing, recognise him in the dark, go into reverse and then botch the job?

Next time I hope whoever it was gets both George and Wiwyum.

JanFebAndOnwards · 09/01/2026 21:04

Absolutely Asking - as I posted a week or so ago, the editors have not broken the fourth wall they’ve kind of decided to dismantle all the walls and replace them with Borcetshire Blue. (Or something that I know how to spell)

echt · 09/01/2026 22:04

I invariably listen to TA on my laptop, and during the whodunnit spinoffs discussions on this thread, got consistent ads for study guides for "An Inspector Calls". I felt quite nostalgic for the years I taught it in the UK. Now I think of it, I still have the SoW I wrote back in the day.

Scotiasdarling · 10/01/2026 06:55

I only lurk on this thread, I've never posted before, but I think it would be lovely if Jazzer sang 'Auld Lang Syne' on Burns night. He sang it on the edition of 'With Great Pleasure' on Radio 4 that he did a few years ago. I'm afraid I don't know how to do a link, but you can hear it on BBC sounds. I found it very touching!

BeatriceBatchelor · 10/01/2026 06:59

If a single woman around my age moved into an "executive" new build, I woildn't wonder how she could afford it. If pressed, I'd say she'd benefitted from the rise in value of her marital home, had savings and investments and pensions to support her. Possibly an inheritance too.

BeatriceBatchelor · 10/01/2026 07:02

PSA For us Jacob fans! Paul Venables is narrating a serial - The Wedding Guest - penned by his real life wife, Rachel Joyce - available on Sounds.

Nos4r2 · 10/01/2026 07:48

If the poly tunnel had a big spilt in it surely you would have to replace it instead of trying to fix it with vinegar and brown paper. I should think you could get a replacement sheet quite easily. Would there be stuff growing in there yet, is it an all year round thing like hydroponics.? You could tell Tony had the right hump about it.
Why didn't they get Joy in to fix it has she can do anything.
I felt sorry for Carrie she did a lovely shepherds pie with extra peas and noone ate it, and the way her son spoke to her. He needs a good kick up the bum.

Longtime lurker here... just popping up to say that there was an Archers anniversary special Bargain Hunt on BBC1 at lunchtime today! Tracey & Jazzer vs Lillian & Justin. Plus a bit of behind-the-scenes at the studios.

DH was sceptical when I popped this in iPlayer, but thank you for alerting us to this.

I had no idea that ‘Justin’ is so tall

muddyford · 10/01/2026 08:15

I said a few posts ago that I didn't care who walloped George but wished they had done it harder. Now I include William in that. Both are noxious scrotes.

BeatriceBatchelor · 10/01/2026 10:18

Is George lying about Marky being arrested. Surely hardened criminals wouldn't be texting each other their plans on their own phones. They'd be using burner phones. Or something.

ExitPursuedByABare · 10/01/2026 10:21

And hardened criminals would have made a better job of it. I presume.

ThatFlightyTemptressAdventure · 10/01/2026 10:28

The whole Marky thing is tedious as is the ongoing behaviour of the Grundy men. What could have been exciting is now just boring and/or unbelievable.Added to which we have Highland Games with Joy to look forward to.

I started imagining a big explosion at Ambridge and who I would want to live or die. There were more on the second list than the first 😀

Yes I think George is making it up about the police call and what he said about the gangs phones etc. For some reason he wants everyone to believe it's all over and done with.

Nos4r2 · 10/01/2026 12:23

Just watched the Archers addition of Bargin Hunt, and I must say that if Justin was like Simon In real life what a lovely life Lilian would have.
