Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you wishthat we'd heard the Reverend Shula preach over the festive period, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

I am all Archered out after the excitement Hmm of the 75th anniversary yesterday, the special drama (Truth and Lies), the podcast, you name it. Now it looks as if George is going to pull through, the hype seems a bit overdone. So it's over to you!

Who is Jake?

Also, re Cinammon, (agree it’s a mare’s moniker), that horse had some pretty heaving bitting going on from all the jangling noises. And if it needed that amount of control it’s not the sort of animal to stand around patiently whilst festive lights are dangled about. Maybe The Bull has a handy corral next to the car park for locals to park their steed whilst they grab a pint.

Jake and Mia are siblings children of Nic (who married Will Grundy and then died of sepsis). So they are half siblings of Poppy who was Will and Nic's child. (If I have that right).
Jake is therefore George's step brother.

TeenToTwenties · 05/01/2026 15:02

Mia went out with Brad for a while but they broke up before she went to university (and Brad decided not to go somewhere decent so he could stay at home).

ExitPursuedByABare · 05/01/2026 15:43

Jake had completely disappeared from consciousness.

Jake had completely disappeared from consciousness.

I'm not certain, but I feel as if when Nic died that Jake stopped staying with Will, whereas Mia continued (at one point effectively being Poppy's main carer).

i think George did hear the voices before being clonked on the head. Didn’t he say something like “who’s there? You don’t scare me” or some such line?

I have listened again to the episode, and he did say "who's there" and then "you can't get rid of me" and "prove all you losers wrong", but there was no reply to any of his maundering before there was the sound of a blow and "chink" noise which I expect we're meant to think was a bottle breaking over his head. Then after a pause for the midnight countdown and the fireworks to start, George groaned, muttered "Mum... I'm sorry. Mum..." and then groaned some more. I think that last bit was just him trying to do what he had set out to do, apologise to Emma, not indicating that he could see Emma. I also think it was melodramatic tosh, but hey.

Would the pub's CCTV even cover the footpath? In real life CCTV quality is pretty low resolution- at night at a distance (I assume the footpath doesn't start in the Bull's carpark) I'd question what it would capture. I'm guessing someone innocent wiped it just in case their significant other was on it (Fallon or Harrison, maybe Jolene worried about Kenton)

The footpath starts on the far side of the Am, over the bridge and past the church. I don't think any pub CCTV would cover that range!

Nic (who married Will Grundy and then died of sepsis)

Just for the record, the latter event was not directly caused by that initial action.

It sort of was. If she hadn't married Will Grundy she would not have been helping to clear out Joe Grundy's rubbish, and would not have cut her hand on a rusty nail...

I don't think it was a horseshoe nail, though.

Also, Will Grundy ignored her symptoms and left her alone in his house for the evening, which was when it got really bad and she ought to have been taken straight to hospital rather than going to bed with a hot-water bottle and hoping she felt better by morning. Some other husband might have become alarmed over the course of that day and evening and done something about it.

Yay! Great news! Miranda scuppered!

As if Neil wouldn’t already know how Tony and John had fallen out before John died. Stupid writing.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/01/2026 19:20

One thing I feel reasonably sure about after tonight: whoever bottled George, it wasn't Markie or his gang. Too many people have said this as a certainty now.

echt · 05/01/2026 19:26

As for the episode just aired, all the fuss about Christmas traditions and taking down the deckers - they were a day early!
Mine are coming down today, it being properly the 6th in Australia.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/01/2026 19:33

Hannah has been off sick since NYE. Suspicious?

JanFebAndOnwards · 05/01/2026 19:39

Adam and Iain have gone to Ireland, if not important why was it mentioned

muddyford · 05/01/2026 19:40

Good to hear Fallon telling J@y to button her over-developed lip.

Yes, but too politely imo. Such inappropriate wittering

EricTheHalfASleeve · 05/01/2026 21:13

Maybe Joy's moral posturing about severe punishment for violent crime will come back to haunt her when Rochelle is sentenced.

Hercisback1 · 05/01/2026 21:17

Boop for Fallon realising how annoying Joy is.

Hannah being off sick is odd too.

Agree that it's definitely not Marky. This storyline has me over infested but I equally don't really care.

Gonners · 05/01/2026 21:27

If it was Hannah, I very much hope she gets away with it. In fact, that goes for pretty much everyone, because if they're not caught then perhaps George will run away and never be heard of again.

Eastie77Returns · 05/01/2026 21:27

Alice refers to Lilian as Aunty Lilian but Tony is just…Tony. Bizarre.

Do Ian’s family live in Northern Ireland or ROI?

I wouldn’t mind if Hannah is the culprit and she is arrested. I don’t like her.

EricTheHalfASleeve · 05/01/2026 21:34

In real life the culprit is much more likely to be a man (in terms of violent crime perpetrators). And maybe I'm just a coward but would many women follow a bulked up drunk ex-con with a temper down a dark footpath?

Agapornis · 05/01/2026 21:48

Tonight has further confirmed my suspicions about Joy.

ANutAsBigAsABoulder · 05/01/2026 22:31

Another BOOP here for Fallon telling Joy to stop banging on tonight. A shame Jolene couldn’t do the same. If this George storyline signalled the end of Joy and Mick’s irritating ubiquity around Ambridge, I would be delighted.

TheUsualChaos · 05/01/2026 22:38

Same!

So Joy and Muck dealt with deleting the CCTV but for who or why? Themselves? I'm now wondering if the reason is completely unrelated to what happened to George. After all, he wasn't attacked in the pub or anywhere near it. Have you checked all your NYE takings carefully Jolene?🤔
