Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love a couple of acquaintances to clean and tidy your house without your permission, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

What do we think - best Christmas ever followed by a nice quiet New Year? No, me neither. We have the tractor run to look forward to Hmm, and then whatever they've got lined up for the 75th anniversary of the first ever episode - New Year's Day 1951. I can't imagine that anybody involved with the programme then expected it would still be on the air 75 years later. I wonder what they would make of the current direction. The lack of farming content would be a surprise, given that was the whole reason for devising the programme in the first place.

Over to you!

Clive Horribin? WTF is going on there?

Clive Horribin? WTF is going on there?

How has Clive not been seen?

echt · 01/01/2026 20:00

And as for the doom-laden music.

Given the concept, I’m not sure a real TA character being investigated can die in this imaginary realm - because how would that impact real Ambridge? (If you see what I mean?)

That was actually one of the questions my DD was asked at an Oxbridge interview for philosophy, but in the context of Dr Who.

snowibunni · 01/01/2026 20:04

Loved it. Although Clive and his recordings was perhaps jumping the shark. Thought Brian was going to have a heart attack (and I'd then look forward to THAT investigation) and Emma have a complete breakdown. Brad was true to character and offered insight into his character/ relationship. Not sure I'm any clearer on who clonked George though.
.

Brefugee · 01/01/2026 20:04

well, it sort of grew on me. But i didn't love it.
And now i am rage-listening to the Podcast

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2026 20:09

The 🔮 is railing against damp squids and red herrings. It does say it's had glimpses of blood-stained tartan...

I want to know who called the ambulance? It was already on its way when Mike called. Calls will have been recorded, so we may find out.

Sidebeforeself · 01/01/2026 20:09

Just finished the 7pm episode. TOLD you Emmur would be insufferable and George isn’t even dead (yet?)

TheUsualChaos · 01/01/2026 20:18

Can anyone tell me if all the little extra short episodes from today are available to catch up on? I've just looked on the app and doesn't seem like they are? 😭

laughingnow · 01/01/2026 20:20

Tracey or Jazzer dunnit

DeanElderberry · 01/01/2026 20:21

That was crap imo.

Back in Priestley's Edwardian factory town he could ignore things like due process in order to push home the sentimental points, but that combination of things we'd already heard, and Clive's voyeurism, afaik invented for the occasion, was both plodding and exasperating.

Very sorry I wasted 45 minutes on it.

JanFebAndOnwards · 01/01/2026 20:22

The extra short bits from today were all included in the thing at 7.15

I took that to mean the ambulance had been dispatched as soon as Eddie gave the initial details, then he asked again so the operator reassured him it was already on its way.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/01/2026 20:24

Tracey dunnit and Jazzer's covering for her? He called the ambulance?

DeanElderberry · 01/01/2026 20:24

I normally find the 'show don't tell' cliché too CIA, but we were well and truly told this evening. Which suggests a (rather unfair) lack of BBC faith in the SWs' ability to do the job within the normal parameters of TA.

Brefugee · 01/01/2026 20:25

i was fairly ok with it, as a "literary construct" until Clive was brought in.
Then i was just eye-rolling and waiting for it all to end.

That's not how I heard it, although you may be right.

JanFebAndOnwards · 01/01/2026 20:36

But weren’t they all asking who had called for the ambulance - I think it’s a clue, somehow.

Amber?!

JanFebAndOnwards · 01/01/2026 20:37

‘Er wot done it but then realised she didn't want George to die.

Sidebeforeself · 01/01/2026 20:38

But Tracey and Jazzetr don’t make sense. Neither sufficiently wronged by George and they are both too nice to commit a deliberate act of violence

TeenToTwenties · 01/01/2026 20:40

Jazzer was made out to be shifty in not wanting to search where George was found.
Hitting from behind without confrontation is a cold blooded attack, so I don't think Jazzer.

Marky associate, or Harrison, or Clive is my bet.

JanFebAndOnwards · 01/01/2026 20:42

Amber is conspicuously absent at present. And why aren’t the police interviewing her?

DeanElderberry · 01/01/2026 20:44

Because the police aren't interviewing anyone. For all we know, drunk George slipped and fell and hit his own head.

slughater · 01/01/2026 20:45

HewasH2O · 01/01/2026 19:22

It's a proper whodunnit. Neil didn't do any basic first aid if George really is at death's door. Perhaps the call handler didn't like George either.

yes
afaik the call handlers insist on the person calling doing CPR even if its clearly pointless

gosh i'm slow on the uptake: that was all in George's head?
