Any recommendations on BBC sounds? I've just listened to the P Diddy series and am currently listening to one on A history of ghosts.

I'm not interested in plays or fiction.

Yes! It’s a fair cop, I totally omitted it. Funny and well observed

Do you know there is a new series just out ? I love the show

Is there really? Ive almost finished David Sedaris’ latest series so I listen to this afterwards.

Gattopardo · 30/05/2025 23:44

This is my kind of thread and I’m watching for new ideas.

I second ‘It’s a fair cop’, I really like his delivery.

if you like gripping non-fiction I really recommend some of the excellent investigative journalism on BBC Sounds recently- I’ve really enjoyed:

World of Secrets, “Finding Mr Fox” - about a shady and still at liberty fella who allegedly masterminded a massive drug operation importing coke from Brazil, using cheap/ willing Brazilian wannabe yachtsman. Great whodunnit.

“Hunting the Whiskey Bandits” - similar in some ways. Trying to track down bad men doing bad stuff to people, about a boiler room scam but involving whiskey barrels as opposed to shares.

For fiction that seems like it could be real:

”This Thing of Darkness” - excellent dramatisation from a prison psychologist’s perspective. Very gripping. And a few seasons so something to get your teeth into. I find a lot of radio dramas horribly overacted but not this one. It was clever and really well done.

Callmecordelia · 30/05/2025 23:57

I love most of these, and would add "13 minutes to the moon."

sparklyDMs · 31/05/2025 00:15

I love a lot of these and I’d add

Rewinder
Curious Cases
What? seriously??
The Infinite Monkey Cage
Crowd Science

WinterCarlisle · 31/05/2025 00:35

I LOVE BBC Sounds:

My recommendations would be (I like science / psychology / medical):-

▫️Life Changing - Dr Sian Williams is excellent.
▫️Desert Island Discs - but more the non celebs
▫️The Life Scientific
▫️Fortunately with Fi and Jane - bloody hilarious.
▫️Antisocial
▫️Curious Cases
▫️Doctor, Doctor
▫️Sweet Bobby
▫️Made of Stronger Stuff
▫️Deeply Human
▫️Outlook
▫️Fever: the hunt for Covid’s origin

Thanks @MiloMinderbinder925 for starting this thread! Loads for me to add to my list too.

WinterCarlisle · 31/05/2025 00:36

Oh, also Sideways

mepipesneedlagging · 31/05/2025 00:53

Conversations from a long marriage with Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam.
It's a regular returning comedy with just the two Actors, now on season 6.
It's perfect 😍

tansysmum · 31/05/2025 22:24

Totally second Conversations from a Long Marriage. Best thing both Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam have ever done, and that is saying something.

Wineinthegarden · 31/05/2025 22:27

Missywelliot · 21/05/2025 05:56

It's a fair cop. The episodes on indecent exposure (series 6) and reporting crime (series 2) are especially good. I'd recommend the indecent exposure one to teens too.

The new Dr Chris and Dr xand series, what's up docs.

Good / bad billionaire. The bad ones are just 🤯.

It’s a fair cop is fantastic!! New series just started. I love the ones with Zeus.

CaveMum · 01/06/2025 09:15

I’d also add “Now You’re Asking” with Marion Keyes and Tara Flynn. It’s kind of like an agony aunt column with listeners sending in problems. It’s very gentle anbd funny and also at times moving.

PeachSnail · 06/06/2025 11:50

I tend to like podcasts where there is a bit of a story / mystery to unravel over the course of several episodes and these are some good ones I've listened to on BBC Sounds

Acid Dream: the Great LSD Plot
Witch
Yeti
Offstage: Inside The X Factor
The Missing Crypto Queen
Stalked
The Con: Kaitlyn's Baby
Dead Man Running
Who Killed Emma?
Bible John
Believe in Magic
The Lazarus Heist
A Very British Cult
Hometown: A Killing

mismomary · 16/06/2025 03:18
