No more Fortunately.

I adore them. They're like a catch up with good friends. DS calls them "those women you love". Too right.

New podcast though. Let's hope they take Shaun Keaveny with them to their pastures new.

Ooh wow I was just listening to their latest episode of Fortunately and they didn’t mention anything but I did think they were unusually frank about bbc coverage of the Queen’s death.

Where did you find out they were leaving and are they taking the same podcast somewhere else?

I suppose I will have to start listening to Times radio then 🙁

Joshanddonna · 24/09/2022 21:41

That’s really sad. I don’t listen to Times radio because - murdoch.

I’m sure they’ll do really well.

TrivialSoul · 24/09/2022 21:46

Oh no, I live my weekly dose of Fortunately. I've never heard of Times Radio, where do I find it???

Squeezedsquash · 24/09/2022 21:51

So much good talent leaving the BBC.
Although I’m enjoying the less neutral tones of some of those who have left…

sashagabadon · 24/09/2022 22:00

Mariella frostrup has that slot at the moment 1-4pm
. wonder if she will just do 1-3 and if so what she thinks about that.
I find mariella very irritating at times as she butts in continuously with pointless questions but she does get some interesting guests.

ShowOfHands · 24/09/2022 23:08

I don't know Times Radio either. I was gutted when one of my favourite DJs went to Virgin from the BBC and my digital radio refused to play it. At least the old impartial Beeb plays reliably in this far flung rural spot.

Sounds like they're stepping away from the Fortunately format entirely and back to broadcast journalism.

I'm just going to start Fortunately from the beginning I think.

Nooo, I love my weekly dose of Fortunately! This is such sad news.

Not giving Murdoch any money either.

FinallyHere · 24/09/2022 23:47

Not giving Murdoch any money either.

He sold Sky to Comcast. What is there left to give him money for?

Times Radio - it may be free to use but Newscorp wouldn’t be investing in it if there was no financial or commercial benefit for them - they are hardly a charity.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 25/09/2022 00:39

Nooooo! Gutted!

Hercisback · 01/10/2022 22:20

Nooo I didn't know this.

ILoveShula · 23/11/2022 12:51

Not quite what the OP meant, but is it just me who can't listen to Now You're Asking? I can't put my finger on what I find irritating about it.
Fortunately (pun intended), I'd already switched off last night as I can't see the appeal of the Sally Rooney book.

Phrenologistsfinger · 23/11/2022 19:37

@ILoveShula no, I’m the same. It grates me compared to Fortunately and I don’t get why at all. I want to love it.

ILoveShula · 23/11/2022 19:50

Listening to Jane and Fi was like eavesdropping on a big sister and her friend, but M&T seem a bit like I'm being talked at.
It might not have helped that I've read too many articles about M that have gone on about her past problems - same with AL - and although it's great that they got through it and found success, it seems a bit like they are being feted for it.
When I have listened to NYA, the content has been fine, but there was something not right for me. Maybe they're coming across as too 'girly' or something.
I've not read anything by MK or AL.

JanglyBeads · 23/11/2022 23:59

A year or so ago I preferred Fortunately, but now I find them a bit trite and giggly, like they've had one too many.

Whereas I used to find NYA completely impenetrable, but now rather love it. The soothing nature of their accents and voices, their concern for everyone, their immediacy.

Fingerlimes · 24/11/2022 00:18

I really enjoy NYA.. Fi and Jane not so much .. smug and unfriendly. Give me M&T 5 days a week!

PritiPatelsMaker · 09/12/2022 22:45

I didn't know this! Really don't think I'll be changing over to Times Radio so it will be a goodbye from me.

whyhere · 02/03/2023 08:13

Just wondering if anyone has gone over to their show on Times Radio.... I have, but it's not the same. Some of the guests are a bit of a struggle, and the constant ads are really annoying.

PritiPatelsMaker · 02/03/2023 16:31

I've not bothered @whyhere and from what you've said, I won't be trying it anytime soon.

Would love to know what the ratings are compared to what they were.

TweeBee · 02/03/2023 16:36

I put their show on but can't focus on it reàlly at that time as sorting DC out after school. It's quite a different tone to Fortunately which I think they were keen to do but I really loved Fortunately so I miss it!

ShowOfHands · 02/03/2023 16:39

I'm just re-listening to Fortunately from the beginning.
