I would like to recommend 'The Fortnight in September' which was read as the Book at Bedtime and also in the 12 noon slot over the past two weeks. A lovely listen and I could really imagine the family etc on their holidays.

I second the recommendation. It was like being in a bygone age with similar but subtly different values and behaviours. So much was familiar.

Thanks for the recommendation, I've just been thinking I'd like to listen to the radio more often again!

Yes! Loved the episodes I caught.

I read the novel a couple of years ago - it’s so beautifully detailed and perspicacious. Such finely wrought stress and anxiety over the tiniest things.

Thought the reading aloud did it full justice.

The narration was particularly fine, it really evoked the mood.

Well op thanks for the recommendation.

Half way through and enjoying.
Book at bedtime is an odd thing via bbc sounds. My feed links me to things for years ago only.
This was hard to find.
Really good !

I have read this a couple of times. What struck me was the speed of the postal service compared to today. Having said that, I remember as a child in London having 3 deliveries a day ....early morning, late morning and afternoon, and if a letter was posted to a local address before the 11am collection it would arrive that afternoon. Nowadays we text.

Love the observation just heard that in London’s things get darker with time and by the sea they become bleached (other than people). Lots of great stuff. Very visual !
