Struck me a couple of times recently that the 18:30 spot has had the continuity announcer follow a broadcast with the fact the programme can be purchased on iTunes.

I feel fairly sure it wasn't just one show, but on different nights in recent weeks, so wonder if this is a new policy... Licence fee pays for it first, and then they grab payment again from the same licence fee payers if they want to download it to keep...

Maybe it's a result of the BBC squandering nearly 100 million on the "Digital Media Initiative"... they have decided to charge for downloads.

Some of it is free. Friday Night Comedy, Comedy of the Week and Newsjack are all available free as podcast downloads.

Oh yes, I appreciate there's plenty still free, but was, nonetheless, a bit surprised when the announcer said "The Now Show is available to buy, as a download."

Just wondering why they have started doing this, and whether it is going to be the future for all shows... to make up for the BBC wasting 100m quid, perhaps!

(PS The comment from the announcer won't be heard on the podcast, but can be heard on iPlayer, and I recorded it as a sound clip, too...)
