Rather surprised at Emma thinking she would get the cleaning job with Kira in tow.

I know, it doesn't seem to occur to Emma to leave her with one of Keira's two grandmothers who live in the same village - the job is only for a few hours a week isn't it? And neither Clarrie nor Susan work full-time do they?

Clarrie - dairy + pub + seasonal turkey plucking. Susan - dairy + shop / post office. But Emma will probably get the job in the end , after Peggy has had her mind changed by one of her children.

Remember Jolene broke up Sid+Cathy's marriage, she's no angel. Lil broke up Matt+1st wife, too.

what a pity Emma doesn't have a friend, neighbour or relation who is a young mum, knows the kids, and would be willing to help out with childcare, that she gets on with.
