This was frustrating for me. I knew the answer but couldn't get this to work. A certain combination wouldn't give the correct word until after I gave up and got a hint. Then magically it was there. Anyone else find this?

I didn't want to specify while it was live. It showed ICING as an option, but the substitute word we needed was ICED, which wouldn't appear for me until I had a hint. (The answer was Enticed.)

I'm trying Minute Cryptic now, thanks @drspouse . OMG, that is on another level 😂. I'm really learning now rather than just clicking and often by chance spotting correct answers.

Today's was a weird one. I eventually got the answer from the components, but I had absolutely no idea what the term meant until i googled.
