BabyJogger City Mini or Maclaren Quest?

That's it really. I'm looking for a lighter weight pushchair for DS who will be one in a couple of weeks. Mostly for going into the car boot and shopping outings.

I love the look of the BabyJogger and it folds so cunningly.

I know the Maclaren is probably slightly easier to carry up stairs because you can sling it over your shoulder while man-handling the baby. But the BabyJogger is so pretty...

The only other criteria that I can think of is how upright the seat goes, as DS is beginning to seem a little frustrated that his LoolaUp doesn't go more upright.

Grateful for your advice ladies. Thanks!

basl spoke to the shop and they don't make the black any more. Grrr. Am going to see if I can find time to ring round some places to see if anybody has the old stock left, which I seriously doubt, as the BJCM seems to be out of stock pretty much everywhere, in any colour!

Isitme, i have called everywhere trust me and it is not available in the all black. I think i have come to terms with the fact it has a small grey panel as it is so easily covered with a liner or buggysnuggle. You really can't tell. I would never use with out liner anyway so really makes no difference. I do however would jump at the chance of an all black one. Would they not let you have the shop display one for discounted price????

Glad to read some of the positive comments here about the baby jogger!! I just bought one online (175 + free raincover) having also considered the Maclarens ?

It arrived on Wednesday and read on the straps 'maximum 15 kg' for the weight of the child (as opposed to the max 50 lb they specify on the website -- the 50 lb limit must be including the shopping basket??) IsItMeOr did you know the weight limit before you went for it?

Feel a bit cheated now as DS is already 10kg so it won't be useful for that long, I think the MacLarens have higher weight limits.

IsItMeOr · 25/02/2010 11:26

basl wish I'd known you'd rung everywhere before I just did the same. I should have realised !

Does yours not have grey on the hood as well as the seat? If you know the Red/Black/Cream design, the one I have has black where the red is and grey where the cream is. If it was just on the seat and covered by his bum when in use, I'd probably be less bothered!

Have found a Red/Black/Cream one for £185 including raincover, so may go for that instead.

Nelvana where did you find yours for that price (nosey emoticon)? And what colour is it, lol?

DS is hovering around the 25th percentile, so 15kg would probably do him until about 31/2, which seems forever away. But 50lbs - which is what it says on my box - is more like 22.5kg, isn't it? Maybe worth double-checking with your supplier about the discrepancy?

My 4 year old fits in no probs and is so easy to push. I have to admit i never considered the weight limit. I just know there is plenty of room and does not get too heavy to push with an older child in it like some strollers do. The maclaren quest is lovley and light and i really would like one but i love the shopping basket hood and the large seat of the bjcm.

I have just checked with the Uk distributors regarding the stock situation on these and we have been told that the next delivery of Black & Orange/grey will be on the 25th March, red/black/cream and green/grey will be in April and Red/Black has been discontinued. They did say new colours of crimson/grey and stone will be available April/May so watch out for those. The Black colour is Black everywhere except just on the seat panel (not grey on the hood) and this is due to fire safety regulations on the fabrics. The all black version that people say they have seen in the UK is a model that is 2 years old and has since been discontinued. They seem to be selling out quick now and we have only got 1 black left in stock.

(waves at kelly - I think we spoke twice earlier!)

Have just had another look at the box I have, and maybe I'm mistaken about the hood. Perhaps I should get it out and have a proper look later, because his bum will cover the seat most of the time...

Hi there yes we did speak earlier which is why I thought I would double check the situation

nicolamumof3 · 25/02/2010 13:25

it will say 15kg as that is what strollers are tested to for british safety macs are the same

IsItMeOr · 25/02/2010 13:31

Wow, mumsnetters really do know everything .

I'm so thankful for this thread was really worried I'd royally screwed up but sounds like we'll get a bit more use out of the baby jogger after all!!

Isitme, I paid 175 through babyworld.co.uk by joining to get a 'member's discount' off the 185 price (which includes raincover) -- I ordered the green/grey combo (the green is a kind of sage, which I like and I thought would be nice for DS while the enormous hood is over him, not too dark)

We went out with our baby jogger today (second time only) and I managed to spill apple juice all over it!! Duh. I hit a bump crossing the street while holding an open juice bottle. not as shock-absorbant as our pram, that's for sure!

IsItMeOr · 25/02/2010 21:28

Okay - I am officially a drama queen. DH unwrapped the pushchair properly this evening, and it is exactly as kellyatbabyguds describes - just grey on the seat area. It's actually quite a discreet grey too, so I am fine with it.

I remain a little petulant about not being allowed the black all over one though, as I wasn't planning to allow DS to fall asleep while he was smoking in his pushchair .

Thanks kelly et al, for helping me get to the bottom of this. But kelly, I have been wondering how you knew I was on Mumsnet? Spooky!

Nelvana oh no about the juice - hope it has come out okay!

Isitmeor that makes two of us. Thought i was way over the top about wanting the all black and still would like it to be.

kellyatbabyguds · 26/02/2010 09:46

Isitme I had a feeling when you rang as your not the first to ring from here but then when I saw your posting just after you rang I knew it was you. Glad your happy with your pushchair

IsItMeOr · 26/02/2010 10:01

at kelly - I did indeed hear you recommended from MNet!

Had to laugh at reading this thread but seriously I am a little miffed because I really really really want a BJMC! I already have the Quest (my 3rd pushchair)so am working at the moment at trying to persuade dh that I really need another. Problem is the price tag for the BMJC really is quite hefty.

The Quest is great - so light and easy to push - but I would really rather something that lies back a little more. I take it they are selling off old stock at the moment.
Isitmeor - where did you get yours for 160. Do they sell online?

sammysamsam · 05/03/2010 22:13

babyluck, 5inthebed is selling a black one with pvc for £130 on the FS thread here. blimmin bahginn.

alabaster · 29/12/2010 13:47

Wondering how you got on with the black vs black/grey issue? I am confused by the all black pictures being described as grey/black in colour. I don't want grey!

onadietcokebreak · 30/12/2010 14:32

Mine is black and it truely is just black!
