Second hand travel systems on ebay - wise buy or false economy??

I'm a first time mum, due in July and starting to look at prams/pushchairs etc.

From advice I'm after an icandy apple travel system so when second child comes along can convert existing pushchair plus they seem to be amazing!
But MEGA expensive, about £700 for whole system.

There are some going on ebay that I am tempted but my sister (with 2 kids and rich husband) said if we get anything new it should be the pushchair and car seat as second hand can be dodgy. Advice from other mums please as don't want to blow an extra £500 if can be avoided!!

Pushchairs are fine second hand - although obviously you need to be aware that people may not be honest about the condition etc.

Would buy car seat new unless buying from a very close friend.

Another option is to buy a frame for a pushchaor (like the Loola up) to which you can add the car seat, then as you need it you can buy the seat unit, carrycot seperatly and not pay too much all at once.

There are several like that.
