how soon can baby sit up a bit from lie flat position?

my ds is 9 weeks old and i have an adjustable seat that can be set at any angle. how soon can he sit up a bit do you think? he is v alert and likes to look around but maybe he is a bit young?

Do you mean lying but at an angle and with head and neck completely supported? If so I really hope he's not too young at 9 weeks as mine was in a bouncy chair waaaaay before that. I definitely think they need to be able to watch what's going on - must be very boring for them otherwise.

I think the official advice is 3 months, but I ignored that with DC2 onward, who were slanted up much of the time from birth. I don't know what damage is supposed to happen if you angle them up, I got away with it.

duh, failed to mention that i was referring to seat in his buggy!

If it's a buggy designed for an older child (6 months plus) it's probably not a great idea just yet as he might flop about a bit. If you do decide to maybe some rolled up towels at the side to keep him a bit more stable? And strap him in to make sure he doesn't slip out the bottom while going downhill!

DS was in the buggy (fully reclined) from about 3.5 months as we don't have a proper pram but one of those car seats that fit onto the buggy frame and it was just far too hot in there.

My DD hated being laid flat if she was awake almost from birth. She was a very upright baby and would create a bug fuss if laid done, and instant quiet it held up or propped up at all.

DD was sitting unaided at 17 weeks so by 9 weeks was definitely sat slightly upright in a pushchair - ours could be adjusted to any varying degrees of uprightness. It was only for short periods of time though - not sure it'd be great to be sat propped up for any lengthy period of time.
