Suggestions for pram system - no car park space outside house

We are due soon and I would like some advice. I've put a lot of info on what I think we're after.

We were given a second hand travel system (car seat, bassinet, upright seat, with the pram frame).

My husband has broken the car seat that goes with it, it's unfixable and we are wondering whether to replace. It's no longer manufactured so we would have to find something that's compatible. How useful is it having a car seat that goes into the pram frame?

I have been reading that you don't want newborn babies in a car seat for too long, so would I be generally taking the Bassinet pram out in the car most days?

Problem is the pram is quite bulky even when collapsed and taking the Bassinet also is going to take up a lot of space. It's also not the easiest to collapse so I am a bit worried about how easy this is all going to be on my own - slightly tempted if I'm buying anything to buy a new system that's a bit smaller and compact.

We have a spare car seat (not compatible) so that's not an urgent need.

We do a lot of dog walks, so driving places then on a long walk (would baby be best in bassinet for that?). Plus useful to have the bassinet pram kept in the house for daily dog walks.

Another huge issue is we have to park on the road away from the house, so something on my mind is that ferrying her to the car from house and back isn't going to be easy, if I have dog or bags to tow on my own. Has anyone else been in this situation where they live away from the road and can give advice?

I guess if I'm replacing a car seat i would prefer to get one that's a swivel base.

But yeah if you have a travel system, how often and in what situations are you plugging car seat into pram?

I know we won't be using bassinet after 6 months, is that right? So I don't know whether to wait till after 6 months to see if we have a better understanding of what we want before buying something else - can we make do with just the bassinet pram? It does have the upright attachment for when they're older.

As I say the pram is fairly bulky, don't know whether we should wait and see how wee get on and either buy 1. New car seat, 2. New pram that's got big wheels good for muddy dog walks, 3. Smaller pram that is easy to collapse and keep in car and use our other one for dog walks.

Any advice from people in similar situations would be good! I will be walking the dog with baby up a huge muddy hill dog walk, plus driving to different places.

The travel system is the discontinued ickle bubba stomp. And then we have an incompatible car seat with newborn attachment.

Sorry for the brain dump!

I would honestly just get a baby carrier especially if you have a dog etc
We broke the bank buying a travel system and we’ve maybe used it 4 times. It is good to give your back a break but I’d say the carrier you just put it on, grab baby from car seat and then your hands are free!

I would wait and see if you can. We mainly used a baby carrier for dog walks, then at 6 months we bought a lighter weight pram. We did use our travel system but not nearly enough to justify the cost, and our baby never really loved it - as soon as she could walk she was walking the dog walk herself!

Wait and see! Honestly like many people we bought a full bassinet systems with lie flat pushchair attachment yet mostly used an umbrella buggy due to space. A combination of what you have and a baby carrier is fine for the first few weeks then work out what works for your lifestyle

How useful is it having a car seat that goes into?

I think they're fantastic. I got a huge amount of use out of it but they're not really for long dog walks. I'd suggest holding off on making a decision because your lifestyle might change more than you realise.

Having a car seat that can go onto the pram is useful for short trips where you’re travelling in the car and need to get out somewhere briefly and don’t want to get baby out. Eg popping into Tesco to get milk, dropping older children off at school. How often do you do that kind of thing? If it’s not often then I wouldn’t worry too much about it and just use the car seat you have and separate pram.

I wouldn’t get another pram yet but wait and see what works for you. Prams can be delivered or bought quickly and often available second hand. Lots of people have a push chair in the car and house if they do a mix of leaving the house on foot and on the car as it saves a lot of hassle.

And as another poster said - definitely a sling! Try a few out to see what’s comfortable. I used to like Baby Bjorn that you could keep on most of the day and then just pop baby in and out as needed rather than taking the whole thing on and off each time
