Do I get a double or will they cope

Son's 3 in September
Going to start trying for a second around then
Next one might arrive when he's about 3.75 - 4.0

Currently fighting in my mind whether to buy a bigger car and a big old double buggy or buy a new single buggy for new baby and let him walk with us, tied to me by a chain perhaps but you get the idea

How did you's cope when the second come along? What solution did you come up with?

What worked for you?

I wouldn’t buy a double with that age gap.

we have a 22 month gap between ours, I bought a double and only used it for 6 months as eldest wanted to walk everywhere after that.

Why on Earth are you thinking about this before your second has even been conceived?!

Spidey4 · 23/08/2023 22:21

Eldest is nearly 4 and hasn't used the pram in a year. Hates it and much prefers to walk everywhere

This was my thought!

We are trying without a double with a much smaller age gap

I know; seems madness to me.

Get a buggy board. Mine were 19 months apart so I needed a double but now the 3 year old doesn’t want to be in the pushchair most of the time.

Patty101 · 24/08/2023 13:37

There is a 3 year age gap between mine. We bought a 2nd hand buggy board and that did the job. Sometimes to mix it up a bit we had baby in carrier and 3 year old in his old buggy.
Personally, I dont think you'll need a double buggy with your potential age gap.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 24/08/2023 13:51

We bought one with a 26 month age gap. Used it twice. It was a waste of money.

PinkButtercups · 24/08/2023 15:13

I wouldn't buy a double with a nearly 4 year old.

My son was 3 when our twins came along and I just ditched my toddlers buggy. My twins pushchair had a built in buggy board if needed but he was fine without his pushchair.

headcheffer · 24/08/2023 15:16

No you won't need a double with a 4 year age gap.

It's called thinking ahead

You will have a 4 year age gap! You don’t need a double buggy.

Problesolving · 24/08/2023 19:16

You have no idea how long it may take to get pregnant or what may happen along the way. It’s highly unlikely your 4 year old will be willing to sit in a buggy. I have a 3 year age gap and my oldest walked or scooted.

VivaVivaa · 24/08/2023 19:20

3 year age gap and buggy board has been fine. Wouldn’t have needed a double pram despite DS not being a particularly reliable walker.

PurBal · 24/08/2023 19:22

We have a 23 month gap and I haven’t bothered. DC2 almost 10 weeks. I’m carrying him in a sling and may get a buggy board.
