Hey!
I currently have a 9 month old and my second baby is due in March!

I am struggling to find any double pushchairs suitable for a new born and a 1 year old.

Please let me know your recommendations!

Thank you!

We have a 15 month age gap and a Mountain Buggy Duet.

Pros - very easy to push, good size basket, all terrain, good for re-sale (either to pick up second hand or sell on after), narrowest side by side on the market

Cons - not very small when folded and heavy to lift (in and out the car etc.)

Why are you struggling? Most double pushchairs work for this age combination if they are suitable from birth.

We had an outnabout nipper which I loved more than my single.

There's 13 months between my 2 and I have an out and about nipper. It's great. Light, ease to manoeuvre and quick to fold to go in the car. Even if I only have one of them with me I use it over my single buggy. Mainly so I can put bags and coats in the spare seat.

I had one of these when my DD2 was born. (13 month gap) We bought it in Spain. The seats could be reversed so we set them up once the baby was old enough so they faced each other. Obviously one could be a seat for the older one and the other flat for a baby.
It was a big pram and we nicknamed it the chariot, but it was absolutely brilliant and I sold it on for a good price when we didn't need it any more. Depends on the size of your car, if you do a lot of walking and if you've got room in the house for it.
After that I had an Emmaljunga pram/pushchair with a buggy board (bought from Sweden as they didn't have buggy boards in UK back then and the board was designed to fit that make of pram and hook up out of the way) and a mclaren double buggy for travelling or if both were ill or tired...

if you hadn't already gathered, I had a bit of a thing about prams!

I'm in the same Situation as you op. A lot of people recommend the out and about but I think it looks a bit hideous. I also have a small car so need something that can fit into it and not expensive.

I recently bought the mountain buggy duet for my 2 year old and 4 month old.

I like that each seat goes up to 18 kg but it's still narrow enough to fit through doorways. It just about fits in my SEAT Leon, but luckily we also have an estate so size wasn't an issue for me. Plus I bought it second hand for £225.

I considered a tandem buggy, but I've heard they can be difficult to steer, plus as your youngest gets older, twin prams are recommended (according to the reviews I've read!)

I want to add though, I didn't actually start using it until very recently. Up until now, I have been putting baby in the carrier and still using a single buggy. Don't feel a rush to purchase a double buggy whilst you're still pregnant. Take time to figure out what you need.

Another out and about vote. Yes they are not pretty but they manoeuvre really easily and quite light to push. A friend has an uppa baby and compared it to a tank.

When my two were small I had a pram separate from the base etc. so imagine you are heading out and arrive somewhere you want ease which is what I like about my out and about - easy to put and down and one piece

Twizbe · 31/12/2022 22:15

Uppa baby vista.

I have 2 years between mine and I loved it.

Easy to change back to a single with a buggy board or without buggy board when the time is right.

babynoname22 · 31/12/2022 22:15

Bugaboo donkey second hand.

teapotfullofsquash · 31/12/2022 22:29

Another vote for the mountain buggy duet. Had mine for 11 years, went through five children.Absolutely gutted when it went 😭

staybyyou · 01/01/2023 12:44

19 months between mine, I initially had a mountain buggy duet but I found it really heavy so sold that and got an outnabout nipper which I love! It's not the best looking buggy granted but it so sturdy, and narrow enough to fit through most doors. It's easy to push, seats lay pretty much flat (you can get a bassinet to attach to one seat for the newborn), and it's not too heavy to lift in and out of the car. We've had one puncture but any good bike shop will sort them easily.

I have the out n about GT double. Like the Nipper but it’s four wheels instead of three (thought it would be more stable!), has a built in storage basket and apparently is a centimetre or so narrower. We use it with the carrycot attachment and it is fantastic! So easy to steer, I have only come across one door it doesn’t fit through and it folds down easily. Would absolutely recommend this to anybody!

Theryanfamily · 24/07/2023 19:51

We have the Cybex Gazelle S and I couldn’t recommend it more. We have a 17 month age gap between our children and it is perfect. The basket is spacious underneath and there are 20+ configurations that you can use it. It can even be used in single mode - and that way you can use the handy basket that comes with it for extra space. It folds down well and isn’t heavy - unlike lots of other doubles out there :)

RosieBdy · 24/07/2023 20:14

I used to have a double out n about nipper- I loved that pram!
There were only 2 doors I couldn't fit it through for the whole time we had it and I would quickly just pop off one of the back wheels, balance it though the door and then pop the wheel back on.
Such a great pram.
