Tandem / double buggy advice required

I'm trying to find out which buggy would be most suitable for our family, any advice gratefully received!
My daughter is nearly two and is in a preloved Baby Jogger City Mini as she's tall and outgrew our first travel system (Mothercare Orb) at around 8/9 months.
I'm expecting another baby in December so I'm looking for a double but can't seem to work out which one meets our requirements:

  • tall toddler
  • newborn parent-facing
  • compatible with Maxi Coxi car seat would be an added bonus
  • my toddler naps in the buggy, so independently reclining seats / hoods
  • easy to fold and relatively compact
  • don't use public transport but need to fit through standard doors (so a tandem?)

I'm planning to use a sling for the new baby and keep using the BJCM initially, but due to running a business where my children come with me, I'll need a double buggy quite soon after the new baby arrives (so they can both nap).

I've considered a buggy board but I really don't think my daughter would stay on it for long - we need the security of buggy straps!

I'm sure I've forgotten something, but I'd love to hear some suggestions / experiences.

Mountain buggy duet - side by side but fits through standard doors as only 63cm wide. can parent face using carrycot with converts to parent facing older seat and takes care seat.

or the baby jogger double version.

Tandems are hard to find with a large seat

Thank you Caspianberg.
A large seat is important, as that's the whole reason we had to buy the baby jogger.
I don't think the baby jogger double can take a car seat, or do parent facing, can it?
Would the seats be quite small on the phil & teds?

The baby jogger city select is a tandem and can have seats facing various combinations and a car seat

The baby jogger side by side has bigger seats and can have a carrycot to parent face when small and a car seat can be added.

The phil and teds cant have two laying down at once really

ICandy peach is a stadium pushchair which takes a maxi Cosi car seat. Its parent facing with that but has to be outward facing once the baby is using the pushchair part I believe.
Unsure if it's classed as large or not.

Bumbleride Indie Twin is great for my two. The seats are porbably some of the biggest you'll find in a double yet it still fits through a standard door. You can put maxi-cosi car seats on it and the parent facing carrycot. It's not the lightest/smallest double out there but it is built to last. I love the fact each seat reclines seperately and the hood extends right over so it's perfect for naps as it makes it nice and dark.

Double out n about us excellent. The newer model had separate hoods. You can get adaptors to attach both a scar seat and carry cot.
It’s so light and easy to manoeuvre!

Have a look at the Mothercare genie it's by far the most affordable tandem pushchair, I'm not sure if the front toddler seat reclines or not but it does fit all the other requirements you said, I'm going to be getting it soon as I have a 6 month old DD and am 4 months pregnant with DC number 2 so DC 1 will be 11 months when new baby is born and the pushchair should be able to be used for quite some time as you can have a toddler seat and parent facing baby seat or 2 toddler seats when needed and both can face either way

Char20499 · 12/08/2019 13:10

It also fits maxi cosi car seats btw
