Baby Jogger Citi Mini GT Double Advice

Hi! I’ve recently just ordered a CMGTD as I have a 2 year old and a 12 week old and the original pram I had was just too bulky. As it’s gotten colder I will need a carrycot/bassinet for my newborn. However I’ve heard the BJ ones don’t really last that long. My DS is not exactly petite. I also wouldn’t want to spend that amount on something he will outgrow in a month or two.

So I want to know from those that have used a CMGT if they have used alternative cocoons or carrycots with their pushchair and if so which ones would they recommend? I’ve heard that some people have used the Phil &Teds soft carrycot also a Mamas and Papas one that appears to be sold out. Would the sheepskin footmuff from John Lewis (already have that) not cut it as the head would be a bit exposed?

Also any other tips re the CMGTD are welcome as well as accessory recommendations.

We have this pram and absolutely love it. Ds is 3 in May and fits lovely, dd is 13 weeks, very long and on the 75th centile, we bought the carrycot that comes with it and she fits great in it, I doubt she will last till six months in it but they sell really well second hand. It was worth it for us, by the time she is 5 months old she will be a lot bigger and the weather will be nicer so she can go in the main bit.

I used a Bugaboo Bee cocoon with this pushchair from birth. You do still strap the baby in but it's very cosy and has a head support and the seat of the BJCM lies completely flat (or at least it did on the version I had which was a few years ago now).

I have this and a Phil and Teds and just used my P&T cocoon with the citi double. Just put it on the lie flat position and it’s fine. The cocoon only lasts 3/4 months though. My 15 week is currently just strapped in on the normal straps in a slightly raised position, with a regular foot muff. Not sure you really need a cocoon (or won’t in a few weeks anyway!!)

The carrycot is quite narrow but is no shorter than a standard carrycot. My little boy lasted in it until he was 6 months + and ready to be more upright. He’s big too- he was off the charts for height until recently (just turned 3).

AppleandBlackberry, how long did the Bugaboo Bee last?

Oly5 Do you think the head is well insulated with just a footmuff? I have no idea how deep and insulated it is in the hood. Also the JL footmuff is very warm, but quite hefty. Do you think the straps would be sufficient to keep it on, or are there other ways to fit a footmuff to the seat so it doesn't slide?

Royalsteph and Emmie10, my DS is tall and chunky too. Unless I get to try it out before I buy it, I don't think I'll take the risk. I feel like he'll fill it out already.

I think that’s the right decision. It’ll take you to the end of this week probably to get hold of a carrycot and then there’ll just be another week of cold snap and he’ll be fine just in a footmuff wnd you’ll be down £50-70. Have you seen the head huggers you can get? They’re a bit like the newborn inserts in infant car seats, That might make it a bit cosier.

We have two phil n Ted’s cocoons in our double GT for our twins born in jan. My bigger boy (about 10-11lb I think) likes to sleep stretched out and he almost touches both ends now. Luckily he also likes to be snuggled up so think it’ll last til spring is here properly.

I think the Bugaboo Bee cocoon lasted as long as they needed to be lying down for, once they were sitting I switched to a Buggysnuggle.
