Need buggy for 2 year old- not umbrella fold

DS is just two and still uses the pushchair regularly, I've never really liked the Joie we had due to the fact that the seat sort of tipped him out of it and he was often hanging by the crotch strap iyswim? He grew out of the car seat and I got rid of it, replacing it with a Cybex Topaz stroller.

I've now decided I don't like parts of this either- the wheels are too small, it has two handles so I struggle to push it with one hand, and I don't like the umbrella fold.
DS is my last and almost two, so I don't want to spend too much, but am happy to go second hand.

I think I want-

Large, deep, comfortable seat that reclines flattish
Preferably a nice harness, not a skinny scrappy one (like the joie)
One handle
Easy to push
Smallish all in one fold but not umbrella
Large hood
Not too tiny wheels, unless they can cope with bumpy pavements and a little bit of light off road.
We are emigrating soonish so it would need to be able to go on the plane (checked in)
Easy on/off brake
Not too heavy
I prefer them to be higher up, and would love parent facing option, but am prepared not to have these!

I'm hoping for some expertise here to show me what 4 children and 10 pushchairs has not managed to do yet!

Another fan of the baby jogger city mini. I love mine Smile

Ok, I really want a city mini now, but am going to have to go second hand- does it matter what year? Are the changes anything important? I have googled, but can't seem to find that much, however all the ones I have found are definitely the older style curly logo, rather than the new squarer one.
I think some of them have the clips on the seat for harness height change, so that also makes them older style I think?

Mine was older style and had those clips inte harness.

ShelaghTurner · 13/08/2016 09:12

Year doesn't matter at all. Are you looking at 3 or 4 wheeler?

Hufflepuffin · 13/08/2016 09:43

The old harness is better than the new one I think! The new ones have to break into five pieces for some legal reasons but it makes them a right pain to actually use.

DeloresDeSyn · 13/08/2016 10:00

all 3 wheelers Shelagh

Oh good re the harness, actually they are all the clips from what I can see

Any other differences?

I'm a baby jogger advocate too.
Mine was bought 4 years and 3 DC ago and still going strong so I think 2nd hand is fine!

DeloresDeSyn · 13/08/2016 10:42

That's good to know, thank you- I'm currently obsessing over ebay trying to decide which one- there are a few buy it now ones for around £120 ish.

I bought one! Ridiculously excited now!

Red and silver 2013 mini city with a liner and a raincover £120 with postage, it looks in excellent condition, fingers crossed!

Thanks for all the help, what with finding the perfect pushchair and the Olivers having Another Baby, it's enough to make me try for No.5!

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2016 16:43

Well it's arrived and I love it! I'm now annoyed it's taken until my last baby is nearly out of buggies to find them, and I'm going to fanatically recommend them to everyone from now on Grin

Ah the good old bjcm! Not to put ideas in your head, but I had dc 5 this year, and discovered the city mini double is just as fabulous, but with twice the basket space! Swoon!

DeloresDeSyn · 28/08/2016 08:47

Allabout dc5 might have been a possibility before dc 4 came along and made us realise that we didn't have this parenting thing sussed, we'd just been lucky up till then Grin

I have the Graco evo mini and its really good for the price but some boxes it may not tick for the OP:

  • harness. The strap between the leg has limited adjustability and always looks to me like it's cutting my DD's nappy in two. Can't imagine it bein very comfy for her once she's out of nappies.
  • recline. Is good, the back reclines flat (pain to put up especially as child grows bigger and heavier) but to elevate the legs when reclined the foot rest kind of pops inside out. It's not great especially if DD has had her muddy feet all over it as your hands get filthy.
  • foot break. My biggest bugbear about this buggy is how unreliable the foot break can be. Many times I've thought it had clicked on but actually hadn't. Luckily this hasn't caused any incidents but you do have to be very careful.

On the plus side:

  • this buggy is so easy to manoeuvre - even in the smallest, tightest spaces and feels really sturdy.
  • the one handed fold is great and when folded is really neat and compact (not umbrella fold)
  • the basket is huge - big enough to carry a picnic hamper full of food for 6 people with room to spare.
  • extremely lightweight. I'm a wimp and I can fold it, lift it and throw it in the boot with one hand.

Overall I would reccommend it for value.

Totally missed page 2 before I posted sorry! Off to look at these baby joggers now! Anyway might be helpful for anyone else looking......

My icandy peach fits a lot of your requirements, although I have to admit it's not the lightest one I have used! Really love the small fold and height adaptors though.
