travel system - not fussed about ' designer labels!'

Apologies in advance - I'm sure you've come across questions like this so many times.
First baby, wondering which travel system to buy? Parents are paying! (wee) - want something lightweight, easy to fold up as i use the car a lot... and something that works well as a stroller. Don't want to splash out on an expensive travel system then buy a cheap stroller after 12 months!
Any ideas? Will be using for shopping centres, normal streets for walking - no muddy terrains etc. Went to John Lewis and was shocked at icandy prices.. - do you really get what you pay for or is it just the label?

You do get what you pay for imo. Those like candy and bugaboo have better materials, lighter materials, better balanced, easier to steer

If someone else is paying I would get the bugaboo bee. Small floor space when shopping, parent faces or out, lasts newborn to toddler so no buying smaller pushchair as already small enough. Folds in one piece for car. Takes car seat if needed.

oh I would get the bee but with the older style baby cocoon not new carrycot addition. The carrycot means it doesn't fold in one piece

I would get bugaboo bee - I didn't buy a stroller. Was nice as dd could parent face till 3+ she was such a chatterbox!

Very light, easy to fold and store. Comfy for baby and good to push. Lasts well so will last susquent babies and holds value if u eventually decided to sell. Can also put a maxi cosy carseat direct to chassis with adaptors which some find v handy in early months.

If u aren't keen on bugaboo I had baby jogger city mini with dd1 - was a fantastic buggy. Easy fold, lightweight, comfy for baby and awesome hood (no need for parasol) only downfall for me was it doesn't parent face which I needed with dd2.

I would suggest borrowing a toddler if u can to test drive a few. Pushing a baby is fine not much different to an empty buggy but you need to know what it's like with some weight as that's often when people change to stroller :)

The little devils travel system is great. So lightweight, folds up small and looks nice, is only £300 for everything and used up until my daughter was 2!

Baby jogger city mini. Great materials. Works brilliantly when you add either an insert or adapters for carrycot / car seat. Then a Great pushchair.
Don't get sucked in to big brand hype!

We got a Babystyle Oyster 5 years ago for DD1. DD2 is now using it and in between my sisters 2 children have used it. It's still in pretty good condition and was around half the price of an iCandy or Bugaboo at the time. I would highly recommend it.

Have a look at the obaby zezu. About half the price of others, looks great, sturdy, easy to use etc. We were really pleased with it.

One tip when trying prams out, is remember almost all feel amazing in store with the weight of a small newborn in. But add a heavy toddler and shopping and you can see better how they steer or weigh. In store dump your bags inside it, and add some heavy stuff from in store to get a better idea.

M&P Urbo2. It's lovely. Light as a feather, lies flat so no need for a carry cot if you don't want one. Can be folded flat down with the pram seat still on. Pram seat can be used parent facing or outward facing. Great as a stroller as baby get bigger. About 7kg in weight. Don't know about how small a boot you can put it in as we have an a land cruiser amazon and don't need to collapse it... or an armadillo flip XT. My niece just got one and it fits folded in ton the boot of her aygo.

The Cybex Aton Q car seat (plus adaptors) goes with the Urbo2. Fab car seat. My ds has grown out of it now though (at 9mo Shock but he is long and quite broad shouldered).

Agree with Artandco you usually do get what you pay for in terms of quality if you do want on thing that will last. Often more lightweight and better quality and easier to clean fabrics. I've had some cheap buggies over the years and although lovely looking a lot of been hard to push and or fallen apart.
Bugaboo bee is great. Not seen the new edition but the cocoon buggy is fab. Great from newborn right through easy to push and get in and out the car.

We're getting a cosatto giggle 2 travel system. Not 100% which design yet but I am in love with two so don't mind either. A lot have deals with the isofix base with it so will likely get one of them.

We've got an iCandy peach and we LOVE IT! DD is a year now and it's worn well. It does about 5 miles a day and she's a real bruiser and doesn't handle things lightly (nether do I or DH!) don't get the carry cot bit just lay the seat flat. Unless you want a carry cot and are local to SE London? All my friends brought different travel systems and they've gone to strollers but pinch my pram when I let them Wink

Thank you everyone for your tips. think i'm even MORE confused now! all of you have different suggestions...are all of the ones suggested for newborns as well?

We had the icandy from birth and used the carry cot twice. The maxi cosy car seat was used until she was 4 months as that fits into the icandy

We had silver cross pioneer for DD1 the whole travel system was around 850 in 2014 I absolutely loved it! We now have oyster max 2 for DD1 and DD2 it cost us about 1100 I think for the whole system and I love this one too, has the option of being single or double which is ideal for us

The Urbo2 lies flat so is suitable for newborn. We never got the carry cot because of that.

It was approx £500 for the pram, £200 for the car seat and £125 for the isofix base. Not cheap but as per pp's, you get what you pay for.

Another vote for the cossato giggle two. Folds easily, pushes well and turns really easily. I can push it one handed with my 11 month old in and a shopping basket in the other hand.
Plus the patterns are cool and everyone is always admiring it. Haven't found anything about it that I don't like.

I really thought I needed a designer travel system but after a horrible experience with a bugaboo I tried an Isafe travel system and I bloody loved it, very lightweight and easy to put up and down, the steering was fantastic too.
